Was trying to find that out as well. We didn't get caught but family in car behind us by about 30 minutes were caught for over 3 hours starting about 5:30 sitting at a complete stand-still without being able to get off hwy.

The casualty was stalled in the middle of 45. Three more cars involved, which in turn caused a domino effect in more collisions.

I was very angry when I passed by the DPS troupers at 9:50 to see all three of their cars parked in the right hand land while they chatted. The road rage that was building during those three hours was intense. You witness any of that?

Woman struck, killed trying to get baby out of car

Updated: 01.18.09
A Houston woman was struck by a car and killed Saturday evening while trying to get a baby out of her car that had broke down.

Deysi Zelaya, 45, was traveling north on Interstate 45 near Shepard Hill when her 1999 Toyota stopped in the right lane of traffic, according to a Department of Public Safety spokesperson.

The vehicle was still on the interstate in the right lane of traffic. Zelaya had gotten out of the car and went around to the passenger side of the car to get a 1-year-old baby out of the back passenger side of the car.

According to the DPS spokeswoman, an approaching SUV could not move into the left lane of traffic because another vehicle was there. The driver of the SUV tried to pass on the shoulder of the interstate and struck Zelaya.

She died at the scene and was transported by Metcalf Funeral Directors.

The baby was found underneath the driverís seat.

The DPS spokeswoman reported no injuries for the baby had no record of the baby being transported to the hospital.

The accident took place at approximately 6:20 p.m. just north of Willis on Interstate 45.

No further information was available as of Sunday afternoon.
