Bid To Move Psychiatric Inmate Criticized

A little more than two years ago, Edward Premo Jr. was still gripped by the mental illness that caused him to shoot three state troopers outside his Willington trailer home in 1998. Full Story

Gee...why not give him a gun too? Keep this animal in high security lockup or put him down permanently.

This is what happens in this state all of the time: person who is sentenced to a what amounts to be a life sentence in a maximum security psychiatric institution, places nice long enough to be moved to a less restrictive environment. Eventually, this person will be given enough freedom and the end result will be another David Patterson (or whatever his first name is) where this person will be on the prowl, and just randomly kill an innocent bystander or something.

I believe I recall this case from when I used to own rental properties in Stafford Springs, Connecticut.

White Officers were harassing a Spanish Connecticut State Police officer, using racial slurs to refer to him.

The hispanic officer actually tried to investigate downtown crimes where the White officers felt they were above serving downtown residents.

The hispanic officer was blamed for not passing on information to the White Officers and then was fired. How do you pass on information to officers that are hostile to you, and why should a tragic incident be used to remove an officer based on race?

When someone is having a psychotic episode filled with delusions, auditory and visual hallucination they act on command by voices in their heads. If this man ws not medicated he was very ill psychiatrically speaking. Schizophrenia is is a major mental illness and without medication can be dangerous. They are not asking to release this man they are asking while he is following his treatment plan to be in a least restrictive environment. This is not unusual. Of course hearts go out to the victims and their families. Mental illness untreated brings about tragic incidents.

True, but as we all know in this state, the mental illness provider community is EXTREMLY LIBERAL in its dealing with the criminal elements. Remember, they believe that everyone is a victim.

The dance goes like this.

Patient lives in a highly vigilant clinical bubble. They are constantly observed and monitored, they have little to no opportunity hide a medication and not taking it. They are now optimal. These patients also know if they perform well they are destined for less restrictive environments.

Now the psychiatrist/psychologist proposes a less restrictive transfer. Why? Because it looks good for them if they can show progress. They must be good, right?

Now in a less restrictive environment this man's illness takes over and he now has a greater opportunity to control some of his surroundings. He thinks he is better and doesn't need his medication. He can't say he won't take them because he may be transferred back to Whiting so he mouths his medication, and hides them. The staff are not as vigilant as in the more acute setting and they don't see it.

He starts decompensating but, again no one sees it, their vigilance is lower, as in David Peterson's case.
He now gets to a ward that is not locked, and he wanders away to do as he pleases.

The irony, as in David Peterson's case where NO ONE was held responsible, the same will be true here.

This man made highly elaborate bombs/booby traps. It was shown that he was resistive to therapy AND taking his medications.

Can anyone guess the likely hood of this man decompensating, becoming as psychotic as he was before?

what the heck has this crap got to do with anything?? Why don't you take your liberal minded stupidity to whiting and get yourself examined. The topic is not about racism, as you wrote, but about allowing some loonatic out of max security in a nut house and moving him to less restrictive environment. That said, he ambushed 3 state troopers, nearly killing them. Nothing about racism, stupid. This piece of garbage should be in 4 point restraints for the next 90 years.

Thank you for stating it even clearer than I possibly could.
