Ten years is not enough for this degenerate. Both should have been given a harsher sentence. Both should never be allowed to drive, obtain alcohol, and should provide ten thousand hours of community service. What will it take to stop drunk drivers?

I had to read the article twice. Personally, I think the sentence was very harsh considering this is Connecticut. I'd say these two were simply victims of a judge with a hot hemorrhoid.

I wonder how these two idiots would have fared in Texas? One can only dream.

Wow, this sound like what Sen. Ted Kennedy did to Mary Jo. drunk, crash, left girl for dead. His only punishment was a seat in our Senate

Perhaps I need to clarify - This does seem like a very harsh sentence by typical lenient Connecticut standards.

Me? I think they deserve at least twice of what was handed down. Should they survive prison, they should also never be allowed to possess a drivers license and should be subject to random unannounced drug tests for another 20 years. These two vermin really don't deserve to share the air we breath, but I'm not the king.

I know I will get highly critized for this statement, but some (albeit very little) responsibility has to go with the victim for deciding to ride with an impaired driver. Personal responsibility would tell you not to get in the car with someone "so drunk and high on cocaine that he couldn't stand".

Not going to Flame you on your opinion Jack, because I do agree with you a little here. However it is not mentioned in the story just how or if this poor girls ability to make a good decision was also impaired by to much partying. BUT regardless of that fact, those boys did NOTHING to even try and help her. NOTHING. Making a bad choice does not mean you deserve to die like that.

I personally know both of these men.. I think they deserved what they got.. To be honest (I am not excusing what they did at all) I understand their twisted thinking of saving themselves before they did Kate.. they had criminal backgrounds prior to this event and they knew that they would be punished.. I think they're two great people that had a hard life growing up and unfortunately continue to go down the wrong path in life..

You should not communicate with other people, especially in a written, public forum. You are a complete idiot and a consummate moron. Best of luck.

For the person who asked what kind of mother would allow there <sic> teenage daughter out at night, all I can say is how dare you? This young lady was 18 and an ADULT? I only met JoAnn once, but she seemed like a lovely person and I know she was a great mom. So take your sentiments elsewhere and stop blaming the victim's mother for God's sake.

Kate's dad, Gregg and I grew up together. We've known each other since we were kids. His Aunt and Uncle and their daughters lived next to my parents and family for over 50 years. Gregg's family was always over there and we ended up becmong childhood sweethearts. While our lives have gone in different directions, I still think of him fondly and I still think of his Aunt Ree as my "other mother".

I just spoke to his Aunt a couple of weeks ago and she told me how this has devastated Gregg. He's still having a tough time dealing with this loss. What those scum bags did by leaving his daughter alone out there to die was selfish, repulsive, repugnant, cowardly and beyond stupid. They, all of them who left her there, should never see the light of day, period. Why should they when Gregg, JoAnn and Kate's siblings will never see her again in this life?

Gregg, I am here if you ever need to talk. I still have a good shoulder to cry on. Ask your Aunt Ree for my number. Know how much I care and how deeply sorry I am. I can't even imagine the pain of losing my child and what you are going through.

Did she supply the cocaine too? Weren't your lovely brothers over the age of 21 and able to supply their own booze? Who else are you going to try and place the blame on? Bottom line is that your brothers are cowards who cared more about themselves getting into trouble, then they did about a young lady dying in the street. Seems YOUR mother did a "wonderful" job raising your coke smoking, drunk driving, selfish, killing brothers. Where's HER responsibility in this mess? You seem to like to blame everyone else's mother.

All I know is that someone I care about lost his daughter whom he loved with all his heart and this has just about destroyed him. He will never see his daughter again and your brothers bear that responsibility. Thing is, in less than 10 years your brothers will be out, able to continue on with their lives. They will be able to get married, have their own kids, go to family get togethers, talk to YOU, touch YOU. Gregg and JoAnn don't have that chance anymore because their daughter is dead.

I went to school and socialized with 3 of the involved "men" (del, joe and jordan) and personaly know that they all had records before this, all thought only of themselves, and probably only feel bad about this because there all in jail now. Jordan only recieved 3 months because he was a passenger in the car and not a driver, but he left her to die too. He's trying to make himself look like a hero to people by saying he held her until she died or some garbage like that but he ran too and lied when he was questioned. Dont be fooled people, these people were garbage, and I dont care if they had it hard growing up. Its just an excuse to not have to care about others.
