What difference does it make if he's Puerto-rican or not. A dirt bag is a dirt bag no matter the ethnic. He looks like a crazy white boy if you ask me (if you want to take it there).<quoted text>
Is "Junior" a Puerto Rican? When I first read this story I figured it would be (junior's a popular term). Now that I read the update that she's pregnant, I'm outraged!!!

In this situation, I think the taser was called for. Even without the gun, it could have turned into a "Death by cop" scenario if he'd run at them...and who's to say he didn't have other weapons on him? They already had one of those in Coventry, didn't they?

Yeah, that's been bothering me too.

The landlord, Roger Pelkey, is a slumlord. His building is falling apart, violates health and I think building codes, and the Town has done NOTHING to enforce these codes. Why do I mention it? Because when you run a rental property like that, you've set the scene for a bad set of tenants - anyone who is not a criminal but finds themselves living there due to lower rents (because you just can't charge that much for a place where the floor is literally sinking, the walls and ceilings have holes in them, the water pours in and molds with every storm) will want to move away and will do whatever they can to get out. Even Amanda and Junior wanted to get out of there. Amanda more so apparently.
Anyhow, Roger will make sure you or the state can pay the rent but he doesn't give a damn what kind of tenants he rents to. Lower is better because they're less likely to complain about the health violations too.

When the police went there earlier in the day, there had been no crime committed so no action could have been taken by the police at that time. You can't make an arrest simply because a couple is having a verbal, NON-PHYSICAL argument during the daytime, especially when the noise level from their argument wasn't at an illegal level. And, if an arrest HAD been made that afternoon without probable cause, the ACLU and everyone else would be screaming "over-reacting by the police".
I also saw that a previous post suggested that the taser shouldn't have been used. What's the alternative when dealing with an irrational, out of control and drunken madman with a small child under his arm...gun or no gun at that split second? We already saw the other alternative a couple of years ago about a block from this incident that led to a Willimantic Police Officer shooting and killing another out of control man. My son was there that night (he's a Coventry Police officer) and the man left the Willimantic officer NO CHOICE after REPEATEDLY lunging at all the officers with a knife. That incident (thankfully) was what helped Coventry Police (and Willimantic police also now) to get the tasers which would have prevented that first fatality if they had been available at the time.
We all need to stop Monday-morning quarterbacking everything the police do. I have a son and a daughter that are Coventry Police officers and they were both there the night of this incident and I assure you that EVERY officer (from ALL departments involved) did an EXEMPLARY job in bringing this to an end without further injuries or death, especially considering all the patrons at the Bidwell at the time. They kept the subject isolated in the rear of the building and away from all doors leading back into the Bidwell.
Please try to appreciate what police officers do in a situation like this and let's just feel for the victims and their families, which is a much more positive direction to take.
