I'm from the DEEP south and moved North. Where I am from the Schools were like ORC and the communities were close . You went to School with the same kids from grade school through High School. I got a Good education and went to College .
What was wrong here is that The State didn't think that the School was providing a Good education .
Why can't the State mandate that the teachers be hired and the courses taught ?
I think the Children will be better off than being bussed long distances.
There are plenty of unemployed Teachers , so It should not be a problem hiring the right number to teach the right courses.

The state did indeed mandate those things. But the local school board and the superintendent didnt address those issues. all they wanted to do was build a new campus and steal students fron sloan hendrix? The state told them you must meet certain criteria or else. They didnt comply with that mandate. So they recieved a good dose of or else. The students in the long run will be better off.

Folks should be wanting to hang the supt. AND the school board. They are the sole reason this has happened. All the problems happened on thier watch. What is so hard to see about that?

but bigger schools will not help u learn any more than smaller ones it is all up to the person! it is sad becausesmaller schools have more freedom and bigger ones have , but there is pro's and con's in both.

You need to step back before you go talking smack about the school board members, you have no idea how much they felt betrayed they were lied to over and over again, they were led to believe that the issues at hand were addressed and taken care of.
With the exception of a couple members for the most part they all had children that went to Twin Rivers.

Having a child attending the school dont make you Qualified to be a school board member. Those board members where to full of themselves to listen to the patrons. Too damm smatr to learn anything fron sombody else. At least four had taken personal bankruptcy. Stupid Plan to build a new building. Some of them didnt even have a high school diploma. If I could see the problem they must have been really dumb not to see it coming. God Charlie Tyler Board president no wonder it failed.

Amen, amen, amen! Aren't these people stupid? I love how they believed the lawyer when she said "this case is very win-able." ALL lawyers say they can win the case, because they want MONEY! But these stupid people are naive enough to believe!

My 2 sons went to Oak Ridge and are both now in college. Both had previously went to Pocahontas. My older son had some trouble learning with the big classes and not much time for one on one which he needed. He got behind and was failing. The advisor at pocahontas said the best thing he could do was drop out and get his GED and most of the teachers had given up except Mr Massey and Mr Fears. When transfured to ORC. He was able to get some individual help and continued to exceed. He is now in college and doing good. I praise all ORC teacher that helped him to accompolish this. I hate to see the school close. For kids like my son schools like that are needed. Larger schools seem to teach to the ones that don't have a problem and some of the others are left out because they don't have enough help. I think it's something like 1 teacher to every 30 students at Pocahontas.
