It is so sad to see all the students from this area to cry on the final day of their school. I think that if our board members would have faught for our students then this wouldn't have happened. I know for a fact that they didn't fight I have inside information from someone. They was all for the new school but Butch West. I have respect for that man. For the rest of the board screw then. They are not getting my vote and I hope that all of you don't vote for then in the next running. Next thing you know Tug Valley will be up at the new school. Because everybody knows that Johnny Branch got the principal job for The Panters not just because of his wife Jackie being on the board but to help close it down.

People who don't know anything about a topic shouldnt post. For one I know Mike Carter was always anti consolidation as was Bill Duty and those two always spoke and fought for the students of all school involved in the consoldiation. Butch and Mrs. Branch were also very vocal in the Williamson area and when elected they too supported all students not just the Williamson kids.

As for TVHS being closed down, dont look for it to happen, there are laws in effect now that control the time a child is allowed to be on a bus. It doesnt apply to the new school because it was already in the planning stages when the law was passed. But any consolidations and mergers after the law was passed must follow the bus guidelines.

Johnny is doing a great job at TV .I saw in the paper where 8 incoming freshmen and 6 former Williamson FB players had signed to play for TV next year .He must be doing something right for them all signing to play there. After seeing the paper yesterday about the Mingo Central FB parent meeting I think
I realise why this happened also .All the board officers was made up of Matewan people except Steve Cook elected Treasure[good choice for someone to trust your money with he has plenty and don't need anyone elses also he has always been generous to any school selling an ad etc.].They selected 2 members from each area but none from Williamson and said they would select them later .I would BET none from Williamson was there .If 14 players went to TV can't be many left .I personally will be in the stands cheering Williamson players on right along side of the TV players may the BEST players suit up .So if you want to play you will have to EARN a spot like they do at BELFRY ..Go where you fill you can fit in and be HAPPY Parents let your kids be and DON't try to run the programs and they will be ok .Many times parents ruin their kids lives without meaning too. So let them make their own way even if you don't agree they most of the time don't have a problem with it ..and know when someone is better and should be playing over them ...NOW for the big pet peeve of mine ,,,, donating money to look big and get a spot for your child /granchild is different .Do it without your name being plasterd all over .I along with many give and could care less who prints it or announces it ...this is another thing that has always rubbed me the wrong way ...Do it because you want to and you can not for glory or kissing up [so hate as... kissers ].....]Good luck mingo central and my new team TUG VALLEY ...

When people talk about the new school, the subject of football and basketball usually comes up. What's left for the other kids to do who don't play? Will there be other sports teams?

And what about academics? This is rarely mentioned. How will the new school enhance academics?

Get over it! The new school is going to happen most of the kids that went to visit the new school are happy. Why can't the adult be happy as well. If this school was going in Williamson I guartee nobody from Williamson would have anything to say. So shut it up! Its here to stay whether your child goes to the school or not.

There you go you idiot trying to say things that I didn't say. I never said the new school wasn't gonna happen. My reply was to defend the board members (Duty, Carter, and Branch) that was attacked in a previous post, and to put an end to the talking idiots saying that TVHS would be consolidated into Central High School in the future.

Thanks for that. I thought the same. I didn't even say I was from Williamson. I just said that the new school can't be judged yet, it hasn't even opened. Stop trying to sell the school, let anyone go there that wants to, or not. There are options.

WHS graduated 33 students this year, not 15 or 20. That is a very low number of graduates because my class graduated over double that number of kids. I think most people in Williamson are not opposed to consolidation. They realized that WHS was gone. I just wasn't the school it used to be. What the people are opposed to, was the manner in which the whole thing happened. The peoples voice was ignored. After all, the voters voted out the board members who were backing this plan. The voters LOUDLY said they wanted the BOE to rethink the plan. What happened after “the people” spoke? The state BOE takes control of the school, stripping our elected board members of any power, and then full steam ahead with the plan. Then a lawsuit was filed. Ultimately, a judge ordered the building to be built. We, the people, had no say what so ever. How is that democratic? Oh that’s right; Mingo County and the State of West Virginia have never worked in a democratic manner. As for all of you who tell the Williamson people to just get over it, what if the school was being built in Williamson? You people would flip the F**k out!!! And one final question, what if the founding fathers would have just rolled over and taken it up the azz? We could have come up with a better plan, and if nothing else, we could have waited until the King Coal Highway was completed in this county to make sure no child is on a bus for a long period of time anymore.

I agree wow2. I'm not opposed to consolidation, but just the manner in which it happened. I just don't understand the need to sell the school like they are. It's rather a big turn-off. Let me have my thoughts about it, and you have your thoughts about it. For whatever reason, the proponents don't want it that way. Why?

I wonder how this will effect property value in Gilbert. Most people want to buy where there is Elem.Middle and High School in a reasonable distance.Jobs will be lost Business will move [as well as people]closer to the Varney area.Where will that leave Gilbert?Soon to be a ghost town.I hope Livingood is still Mayor.Wonder who they will ticket when all we have left in Gilbert are on walkers? I plan on putting a radar dector on my walker.

These towns along Rt. 52 have squeezed their operating expenses out of the poor for years. If and when the King Coal Highway is completed, they'll be so far off the beaten path, if a crow flies over he'll have a suit case. They better enjoy their ticket money, and if they think things are bad now, just wait, they're going to get worse. It's been a trail of tears for travelers, but in the end, I believe they'll get the last laugh, as these towns fade into oblivion.
