ALLEGED CORRUPTION
Federal Agents Investigating Public Officials In Mingo County, Sources Say

Reported by: Kallie Cart

Williamson , Mingo County , West Virginia

Eyewitness News has confirmed through multiple sources that the FBI and WV State Police have been investigating public officials in Mingo County for alleged corruption. The agencies are working in conjunction with the US Attorney's office.

The sources tell Eyewitness News that the investigation centers around elected leaders in the courthouse. We are told investigators are looking at alleged election violations and for other possible federal crimes, but the sources won't elaborate on what those federal crimes might be.

We were in Mingo County on Monday and learned that a federal grand jury recently met and that indictments are expected soon.

We have also confirmed through sources that the county's only judge, Judge Michael Thornsbury and one of the commissioners, David Baisden, are targets of the investigation. Eyewitness News reached out to both of the men, but our messages were not returned.

We are continuing to dig into this story and hope to learn more information in the coming days.

Ive knew about the corruption for a couple months but im new here... it seems like everyone here knows about some form of corruption thats been goin on for years.. they act like they are doin a good thing gettin the drugs off the street but what they are doin is maskin the illegal activity they are doing... hypocritical... They are no better than the drug dealers... they should have the books theown at them because we the community trusted these people to make mingo a good place to live, but they are really just concerned about personal gain and family gain... thank you FBI and state police for helping to rid the county of lice- liars and decieters- one day we WILL elect officials that will truly do their duties.. and only then will progress be made to make mingo a better place to live

I really wish the dream of getting honest officials is just that, a dream, not in this real world.

If a poor boy stealing can be sent to prison, then a rich, elected, public official should spend twice as much time. Now lets see who pulls more time, a 30 dollar attempted thief charge vs. corruption and the thousands involved. My money is on the poor boy stealing. Justice, indeed

What's wrong did the judge put one of you in jail, or one of your family members? I'm sure he has just as many friends who know him personally and know the truth. You people are just outsiders spreading gossip. All it takes is one person who doesn't like you to start a gossip chain. I don't care if Jesus himself was judge in that courtroom you people would still find reasons not to like him.

If this is a reply to me, the answer is no. I have no dog in this fight. My statement is a general one which has been proven. I stand by it. Power corrupts, power corrupts absolutely.
What's wrong is this judge your uncle or family member?

Will the judge be on home confinement and the work program until his trial? That's what he always makes people do and yes some are found innocent!
