This is where all the conservatives stand in line for the FEMA dollars. Then next month will say look at the 14 trillion dollars in debt we are and deny they took the money.

I sure hope none of the affected inviduals is a Tea Party-er. Wouldn't want them to have to compromise their "principles" by accepting any socialist assistance.

Real Americans should take their disaster relief money and donate it to the tea party to help defeat democrats. That would be the most effective disaster relief I can think of!

So the answer is tax and spend more? Maybe you should make a unifying point somewhere in your post so us mere mortals can agree/disagree with you. Our country is the most generous, forgiving nation on the planet today. But there are limits, certainly during lean times. You seem to advocate unbridled spending forever when in fact there are always limits to what can be done. Government isn't God just because they both begin with "G".

I hope he requested it just so he can throw it mack in Obamas face and say "In your face tax and spend socialist!"

No one in Virginia needs or wants the money because nothing bad happened here so we dont really need to sponge off taxpayers!

Let me try again. We work. We get a paycheck. Out of this paycheck there is an amount taken that goes to a fund that goes to the common good of all people of this great nation.
Now I know that others see these funds collected the same way I do. But here is where it gets sticky. The phrase "common good" is meant by most Americans to mean, for the benefit of persons of need in OUR COUNTRY. Now there is no confusing verbage in the preceeding that indicates that the wealthy should recieve a larger portion of these funds, Neither is there any hidden meaning that a misguided politician has the right to start a shooting , child killing, woman killing, and yes a U S Serviceman/ woman killing war based on a false premise.
I know that our funds in this great nation are limited, so why would you want to spend them to find WMD or give them away to foreign leaders when our neighbors are suffering?
Maybe you have a rational explaination for your statements. Do as I did; try again. This time be reasonable. If you don't think we should spend tax money on Americans, say so.

We the people? Not any more. While I enjoyed your piece one needs to keep in mind that the Constitution, The Bill Of Rights, The Magna Charta, The Declaration of Independence have all been sold down the river Styx on behalf of corporate interests. If thats not bad enough, civil rights have been torn to shreds by, ironically enough, the Patriot Act. All modus operandi for a congress that sees only whats best for its own fortunes. All while Nero plays the fiddle.

I think you got the "common good" part wrong. Defending our country is a "common good". You qualify for that by being a citizen in need or not, rich or not.
If you are talking about rich people getting a tax break because capital gains taxes are lower in some cases than income taxes then how would you envision our country without a capitalistic system of investors and risk takers? Stalled because there was little incentive to risk your capital to create business and compete against state supported or sponsored enterprises in countries like China?
Would you say "common good" means our country should be more European style socialism than American style capitalism?
If by a politician starting a war you mean our past president, I would remind you that congress agreed with him by a wide margin, both in terms of the suspected presence of the WMD and the need to go to war. Seems like that is how our system is supposed to work, warts and all.
Finally I'm reminded that many things are necessary to protect our country and our freedoms, but I don't agree we should exit the world stage and focus exclusively on spending money for social programs. Our competitors would like nothing better.
"If a nation values anything more than freedom, it will lose its freedom; and the irony of it is that if it is comfort or money that it values more, it will lose that too." -W. Somerset Maugham.

Who must I call to acquire information for the earthquake caused my entire three story dwelling (I'm on second level). Following the earthquake, Irene put my area Under State of Emergency. With the entire structure of my building shifted. Now I am questioning the integraty of the structure. I am disabled and alone. As a result of the stress of these past events,I will require treatment to address my fears of leaving home. The stress has caused my pre-exsiting medical condition to flare, which results in taking additional medication and office visists. Please advise. Thanking you in advance for your understanding with this matter.
