Poverty as an excuse

/Why does the Whitley County School system always bring up poverty when explaining their score to the public. Sounds like they are trying to make excuses. Most studies show that the quality of education in an area shows how much or how little poverty there is in an area. It is hard to imagine that after 50 years of consolidation, the building of new schools, and wanting people to believe in the system that they are using poverty as an excuse. Could it be that the good old boy local leadership has played poliltics and the county school system as a whole has failed our students by not providing good instruction, challenges, and opportunities that other kids in surrounding counties have received. I don't either surrounding schools and counties using poverty as an excuse, or even mentioning poverty. Whitley probably just wants to recognize the poor people because those that are living in poverty are the ones that are elcectin their board members and allowing the administrators to stay in office and make big salaries despite the poverty in Whitley County. Just remember folks Poverty and poor education go hand in hand.,

But how much higher would they have scored if staff were hired for what they know and not WHO they know. and I have no AGENDA.

Poverty is nothing but an excuse. If our educational system wasn't so politically corrupt maybe the students would be more edcucated and there would not be as much poverty. It is sad that our area doesn't demand transparency from our school board. They are all yes people hand selected by the superintendent. It is nothing but a cash machine for a selected few.

Y'alls school definitely sucks. I know several people that graduated but were told they are to stupid to get into college. My son went for a year and only learned how to write his first name, we moved to a district with better schools and he has learned so much in just a few months.

I am the product of an education in Kentucky. Williamsburg, to be exact. My education was free to me. The knowledge I received was well above par. It gave me a great foundation to further my education, and I did. Maybe what is unusual is that I had teachers who cared and parents who would encouraged me. I was not allowed excuses, nor allowed to drop out. Unlike the words heard today, it was not the teacher's fault if I failed, it was mine. Young folks need to learn respect. They need to be taught respect from their parents...if they are in their life.

I now realize why our powerful football program only won l game all year. It just had to be we had too many kids that live in poverty. It just couldn!t be poor coaching, lack of leadership from our past super GED/LA who sold out himself and every other program for football. How sad and ignorant that school is in so many areas. If we can just find our way out of poverty it is untelling how far we might go.

if anyone wants to know how corrupt our school system is, just ask someone who has been fired from the system. It will blow your mind.

Yes our schools do suck.most of the staff will use any excuse for not doing their job. but it's the parents that let tham get away with it.I know a few parents that have refused to make excuses or allow the school to make excuses and have children that have graduated with honners gone on to college on full scolarships and done great.
