I've never been beaten by a policeman. Guess that's cause I don't break the law. Try this. If you want to make sure that a Williamsburg Police Officer does not beat you up, obey laws. Pretty simple.

After reading the story in the newspaper, my question is this: The case was settled out of court. Fine. But why were the officers not reprimanded? If they were willing to settle out of court, the county must have thought it best to settle than lose a court battle. It seems to me like settling out of court is the same as entering an Alford Plea. The officers should have been reprimanded.

You make a good point. People that break the law, any law, should be beaten.

Beatings first. Court after that.

it isnt just the sheriffs department. just ask around, this county is full of people who have been beaten down after being handcuffed. then they dont get booked for six or eight hours later so they can cover a lot of it with make up. sometimes as many as three work on one guy who is already handcuffed and on the ground. if those flashlights could only talk. people are afraid to tell it , afraid of further beatings.

I think its a little naive to believe in this day and time that everyone who gets arrested is guilty. If a person is tried, found guilty, and sentenced by his arresting officers then they could change their name to US KGB.I am aware its difficult to restrain some people and the use of force may be necessary, but I also know that some people take the job so they can kick butt legally. I doubt you can tell this sherrif anything about the criminals in the area, considering he has worked it many, many years, and you can't generalize the situation because too many elements are different in each case. If I knew abuse was dealt out, I'd go every legal way there is, document, write the sheriff/police department not accusing but with evidence and then push it if needed. Go through the chains available if you want to be credible. And you have to put yourself in the arresting cops place also, he never knows what he is going to come up on and has to protect himself. Police see people at their worst and have to expect that, but they aren't executioners either.

So they should beat every person they think might have done something wrong. it is not the place of cops to decide if someone is guilty and sentence them to death. most cops theses days are people who grew upp as bullies and want to go a step farther.

I agree completely and if you read what I said, police should not try, convict and sentence people. I know cops have to be careful but they are not judges and juries. I worked in a prison once and I could see that some of the correction officers were in the job so they could legally get rough with people.

It is not up the the policemen or sheriff's officers to render punishment to people they arrest. If you can' thandle them, taze (can't spell) them but don't beat them up.
Cops should be more in control of their tempers than that.

my boyfriend was beaten by a cop and that was while handcuffed,he did not deserve that, now he is gone to be with god. and i really do miss him,my heart feels like it has been ripped out of my chest,he was my life, but now my life is gone.they new he could not walk, and he sure could not run. his cane was in the truck. get real, how would they feel if someone they loved was beaten while handcuffed? a cop is sopposed to protec and serve not beat the crap out of everybody.and they say trust a cop, not me.i trust no cop.
