We were concerned about this event being cancelled because we were planning our vacation for the 4th of July at Memorial park because we heard that it was a spectacular event and now we are having to do further planning on where to go and what to do for the fourth. Thank You.

Sincerly,

That's stupid! I have been taking my family to the Memorial Park every year for a long time to see the firework display. The fireworks are the whole point of the celebration of our American Independence Day! I don't see how the city can pay for new statues all over downtown and not the firework display for the children.

July 4th is the ultimate celebration for Americans. Canceling the annual fireworks show is akin to not celebrating your grandmothers birthday.... due to budget cuts. Where are our priorities?
I suppose some will say that there will be other fireworks to enjoy. They're right. Tthere will always be "someone else" to pick up the trash that people throw down on the trails in Cheyenne Canyon & other public places I'm proud of. I don't suppose that means I should walk by and leave the litter behind.
July 4th is about remembering something more important than "the budget". Hopefully someone with a louder & more powerful voice than mine will speak up.

Until our city residents recognize this is directly related to the ballot issues that are continually voted down, this, other events, along with city parks, road conditions, etc...will decline as there are no tax dollars. We have to make cuts somewhere to make up the difference. What else needs to be cancelled or taken away for people to recognize?

Why do so many people feel entitled to fireworks? What a bunch of spoiled brats that whine and complain like the toddler in the grocery store that wants a sucker.

Well, obviously, you aren't much of a patriot. All people want is a sense of unity and honor for our country. It is tradition. And in these times, a few fireworks to celebrate our nations freedon is not too much to ask. It's not like we are asking for a decent president and a good economy. HA! I guess we know where you will be on the fourth. At home, ALONE or drunk at a bar! Brat!!!!!

I remember back in the late 80's the city was going to cancel the fireworks display. Donations buckets were put up in the remaining 7-11's and other stores. Many citizens of Colorado Springs rallied together and donated money out of their pockets to ensure great 4th of July.

Where is that solidarity now? I tell you, it can no longer be found with all the outsiders (Non-Coloradans) Colorado has been Californicated as well as migrant Military personnel that have no empathy on what happens to C-Springs. Cali's come in buy up property live here long enough and criticize our local laws and say "Thats dumb, that is not how we did it in Califonia." Wel it may be dumb to your ignorant ***, but the law worked just fine for us. You don't like how things are run in my home city? Theres the door, move you *** back to where you came from.

Yes, and I'll bet that secular christmas celebrations will continue, st patric's day, and halloween as well... guess we know where our democratic government is leading us! It surely isn't in remembering our founding fathers and what this Country was based on from the start, so why would we want to celebrate our beginning...

Wow, my family moved to Colorado, in fact begged for orders to come here because we heard how people from Colorado wereso nice and just loved life and the outdoors...we had no idea that military wasnt welcome in your city. But while your sitting on the computer bitching about it my husband is in Iraq defending your right to put the military down the way you just did. So while your enjoying your fourth of July with your family remeber that their are alot of miitary people living in your city that are missing members of their family all for your right to act like an ass.

Im sure the "migrant" military personnel wants to celebrate the fourth just as well as you do and no matter where we are living would be willing to give to make it possible. No one asked my family for money to keep the show on at memorial park??

One, "migrant militants" aren't here by choice; two, CS is better off economically because of us "migrant militants" than most places.
We proudly serve ANYWHERE, regardless of people like you who live under the blanket of freedom that we provide for you and complain. Way to go, "Coloradoan" who obviously has no empathy for those proudly serving.

I agree to the statue placement! How can the city afford bronze statues but yet the city can't afford to water the parks and put on the annual Fourth of July fireworks!
Where does all the money from traffic violations go to? They should set aside money from the fines for the July 4th event; we citizens give plenty to pay for traffic fines so why not pay it forward. Also. if the city is so broke how can we afford all the new patrol cars? I think the city priorities need to be revisited!

I am a soldier and a third generation soldier. I came here because of the beauty of Gods Country. When I came here as a child, the citizens here seemed so friendly. My mother and I came to America from another third world country, with a stop in California. My father was ridiculed, screamed and treated less than a human being after following his commander and chief then. My mother was spit on treated terribly and I witnessed all of it. My mother studied American history, learned the language and became a US Citizen, despite of the treatment. She loved this country and what it stands for, something that others should ponder upon. Does anyone remember what the U stand for? If citizens remember what that U stands for maybe WE as citizens could have done more or something. I came home on leave to see the fireworks but only to be disappointed to realize that selfish attitudes and the "What about ME" syndrome has taken the place of the friendly citizens of Colorado Springs. Had someone had STARTED a ralley for this Fourth of July as one of the comments that was made we as citizens would of showed what the U means in the USA. I proudly stand and fight for this country because I truly believe the people of this country will wake up and realize what this country was founded on!

Trying to find something to do this weekend and find family things to do. If ya stumble across any please let me know. And hey....Welcome to Colorado Springs. Together maybe we can get these people to see that we people too! Happy 4th and God Bless you all!

What's funny is you sit there and act like the military coming here has hurt the city and basically you want us to all leave because we don't care about this place. Yet you want fireworks as well? Sounds a bit hypocritical to me to want a show to celebrate our independence which the MILITARY makes possible, yet you want us out as well? Make up your mind. And for your information, we do care about and love this town. Ft Carson is the #1 base in the united states that soldiers want to be sent. Get off your high horse and make up your mind, you want to celebrate independence day but without the military? I guess you would like it if we were all homeless but our soldiers still fought for your rights.

I could care less if CSprings has fireworks. My comment about fireworks was about what the citizens of C-springs did when the city was going to cancel them back in the 80's.

"Response to Scorned" Post #14 stated, "One,'migrant militants' aren't here by choice..." I did not say that. I referenced "migrant military" in aspect to the military coming here for a few years and moving on.

Let me ask this...

Do you think a person who moves to a community lives there for four or less years should vote and influence laws and regulations on the permanent citizens of the city concerning tax rates and other infrastructure expenditures?

With exception to those who vote absentee during Federal/National election and those who vote absentee for "YOUR own" home state/city elections.

We all know it is your right to vote however, is it not more of a civic duty to with hold your vote on local issues that really do not impact you but have a greater impact on the local society well after you are gone?

May not be news to you. But Colorado Springs has a large majority of retired military . If you look around a shopping center look to your left and right, you may find one or both are either present active duty or retired. Some of us just loved it here that we decided to stay here and retire here and raise our families! Get off your high horse! The majority , if you look at your demographics here for the Springs you may find that the majority of us migrated from other states through or via related to the military! I vote every year and I serve this country for that right. So no matter where the service member lives, it is his or her right to vote and with all the information that is out there, a service member can find out what they are voting for. If you are saying we not intelligent enough to research and find answers to our questions and that we simply are robots, you are so sadly mistaken. We realize who we are and what we stand for. One is to give you the podium to stomp your feet at the military without giving us the respect we and our past comrades have sacrificed for this country! It is citizens like you that give a bad taste in the communities that our service members move too. Fortunately there are more citizens that do not have your selfish attitude and single-mindedness here in the Springs and for that matter in other communities. You are no better than than the peolpe that ridiculed my father for Vietnam and spat on my mother! I thought we grew from our past mistakes but apparently you have not!

Daily Horoscope for December 19

Gemini

Maybe it's pre-Christmas tension but people can turn nasty in the blink of an eye today. This is especially likely if they've got a lot on their plate or they think they're very important, and you may have to treat them with kid gloves if you want to avoid getting sucked into a bad-tempered war of words. Some gentle humor may help to rescue the situation before it descends into acrimony.
