I can't agree more with JoAnn except I call it a town full of pretentious assholes. I really get a kick out of the idiots that say,so why don't you move? Once you move here you can't leave because this has the most depressed economy in the nation.I call this place "Oatman on the river".
You know who lives in Havasu? The wanted and the un wanted.

This post was not started by me. I have never even visited there. The person who did this is Feel The Stinger. Look under Holdenville, Oklahoma posts and you will see what type of person this is. In other words she has stolen my identity and I have reported it. The picture is of me taken in my bar, maybe one copied off my facebook page. This person claims to be able to get your ip address and pays a service for any info about someone. She just went too far this time.

Anyone that read the original post knows there was a picture posted of me and my address listed as Holdenville, Oklahoma. Feel The Stinger is running scared. Too late for her, I copied the original page.

I would never live someplace where I could not feel the cool green grass between my toes. You can have the sand. The place is depressing to me.

And yes I WILL stay away.

Havasu truly is a town full of jerks, people who want to do something annoying just for the sake of bugging you. They all think they know everything even though only 5% of them have ever been to college and only .05% have any post graduate training. They respond to these stats by claiming loudly and proudly that college is for losers. These people are after one thing in life and that is money, the shortest route to it and nothing, but nothing will divert them from attaining it. The vast majority belong to a church, whether or not they attend, and they won't associate with anyone who doesn't belong to a church. They also won't give you a job if you don't. And they have to have known you for a good long time, too. Many are from Orange County, CA, while others hail from the upper Midwest. All are conservative, bigoted, and stupid. They drive like they never should have been given a license. What, signal that you are going to turn left right in front of somebody? Hey, the other guy is supposed to KNOW what you intend to do. It's not YOUR problem if he doesn't. Watch these people at a four way stop. Few seem to understand who has the right of way. Look it up in your drivers manual? Hah, you gotta be kidding. And if you're towing a boat, traffic laws don't apply to you at all. With all the bald cops on the force waiting to get a little fascist with someone whose attitude they don't like, you'd think a few more tickets might be handed out to these dips, but don't hold your breath. More likely, they will be looking for anyone who doesn't think, act, and do like everyone else. They just had a so-called "pooch party" where everyone looked the other way when we showed up, even the dogs. What a bunch of snobs and jerks. You have to wonder what it is they feel so superior about when the vast majority of them are inferior to anyone you might encounter just about anywhere else in the country.

Most of your comment is spot on. The driving aspect only gets worse when the snowbirds arrive. This "holier than thou" attitude is so annoying. Many want to know your church affiliation and if you don't have one, they try to recruit you to their church. They want you to buy locally but the prices are high as if you live in Cali. Try buying a car here. The difference in price can range from $2000 to $6000 dollars elsewhere. No, I not moving because I love my job and it pays well-it's not in LHC. I am college educated. That small group the make all of the decisions for the town only looks out for their interests. They don't want too many chain stores/restaurants in town to compete against their businesses. I'm glad that I have a small group of friends that I can hang out with and don't have to deal with the pretentious a$$holes. Don't get me wrong. There are some really nice people here, but they are few and far between. If you are not one of them or willing to become like them, you will be considered an outsider. I live here only because it is the most "reasonable" place closest to my workplace. And almost all activities center around drinking. Every fund rising event has applied for a liquor permit to serve liquor. I'm not saying I hate LHC, but it is a strange place to live.

Yes, there is a serious drug problem here. But is that the case almost anywhere in USA? Not trying to downplay your situation, but shouldn't you be mad at your ex. Your daughter did not get caught in some drug situation. Your ex short-circuited that route. I have lived here over 10 years and noticed from day one that there is a serious drug problem here. Sort of shocked at who is behind the distribution here. The main problem here is those in charge are in denial because they don't want things on the books that could tarnish the tourist business. If it is not drugs, it is alcohol. Everything centers around drinking. Almost all the fund raising events apply for temporary liquor licenses to entice people to come to the functions. There are a ton of bars and almost every eating place serves liquor. There are so many people with those anti drunk driving devices in their cars. Yes LHC has a lot of problems. But compared to Kingman, Phoenix, Tucson, Parker and some other places, what choice those one have if their job is in the area?

I came to LHC to get away from angry jerks like Lemme Outta Here. They are all that you find in LA anymore. Lake Havasu is awesome. If you think people drive badly in Havasu, then you must not have lived in too many other places. People don't speed and drive extremely slow, even on the freeway. Uneducated populace? So what, look at what all these geniuses with PhD's are teaching our children in school these days. Most freshman enter college with an 8th grade level of understanding and need remedial coures before taking the required courses. Bottom line is, if your life sucks in Havasu, it probably sucked wherever you came from before, and will suck wherever you choose to live in the future. And I didn't need my Master's degree to make that observation.

I used to live in Havasu back in the late 80's-early 90's. I thought it was a nice place with nice people....back THEN. I dunno what it's like now, but I wouldn't mind visiting. I've heard a lot has changed since I lived there, and not all for the worst. I thought the two best things the place had going for it was Shugrue's and River City Billiards. Either of those places still there?

Havasu has a huge heroin epidemic with the old and the young. The daily suicide attempts should give people an idea of just how depressing the town is. It is horrible. Very bad. Hate it...escaping soon...thank God! the town will never admit to a heroin and suicide problem beyond the norm...never..they would lose tourist money...
