Rick, I contacted the Yavapai County Sheriff's office, and the said they did not have a log in or sign in sheet for the ranch. Maybe you can give me more info ????? if you would like I've left my email if you would rather use that...Connie You can also find me on face book
Hi Connie, At the Pica and Seligman entrances to the ranch, there are sign in kiosks. No one but ranch employees are allowed to enter the ranch unless they sign in. It's considered trespassing if they do enter without signing in.
This apparently happened in Coconino county. Contact the the Sheriff's dept. in that county.
I cannot believe that the Sheriff isn't aware of this. The dept. of Game and Fish certainly know about it. I'd get on their butts about it. I would bet you're very frustrated at this point, and I feel so badly for you and all that knew him.

Suggest that they read this thread about this tragedy. Best of luck in getting the case solved! Talk later, Rick

Rick,
Did your wife ever meet Jim's girlfriend? And does she remember when she saw Jim last? Just trying to piece together more of the puzzle. Lastly, does the station there have maps of the Big Boquillas Ranch?

My wife said that no one here was aware of his girlfriend, as no one ever said anything about her. Not one person in town has ever said anything about her either. This makes me cautious as to the veracity of her existence here in this area.

My wife isn't sure if she had if fact met Jim. She thinks so, but she can't exactly recall who he was. I listened to 2 ladies talk about him at the Shell station in town. And they said that he was a very nice, respectful, but kind of shy, man.

I surely wish that I knew more, and that I could find out more.

What bothers me is that apparently no law enforcement personnel has bothered to check that sign in log! That would be one of the first things I would do if I were a detective on the case.
At the approximate time of his murder, I was camping out by Mt. Floyd looking for Indian artifacts. NO ONE has questioned me, and I would have been glad to answer any questions. This indicates to me that they haven't even considered checking those logs.

Hi Connie, I'm sorry, she hasn't heard anything at all. This IS crazy! You're exactly right! And you're also right about a murderer running loose out here. I go out on the Boquillas a lot to go camping and to just plain get away whenever I can. Now when I do, I sleep with 2 of my guns at the ready. I'm going to start bringing one of my dogs when I go out there. And I pity the guy that tries to murder me. Probably nothing will ever happen like that to me, but obviously you never know, as no one had any reason to murder Jim, as far as I can tell.

I feel very bad about this. And it especially upsets me that not much has been done to find whoever did it!

Well Rick... Lets see here. the ladies in the store must not have know Jim either because he was polite and a gentleman but he was not shy at all. No one knew he had a girl friend out there, hummm. All interesting.
And Now... You say you were camping out there that week end. Were you alone? What time did you enter and leave?? When you signed in do you remember seeing other names, I don't expect you to remember what they were. But for some reason this sign in sheet stick with you. Was there anything unusual? How about overly normal? Anything stick in your mind at all about that week end?? Thanks Rick.
And ya know, life is short, you never know what will happen, but you can't go through life being scared either. Hang in there, somethings got to give here pretty soon.
try to have a NICE HOLIDAY and HOPE FOR A BRIGHTER YEAR TO COME..

Hi, I'll review the log/sign in sheet today or tomorrow to see exactly when I signed in, and who else did. I usually sign in at around 7:00am, and when I go back home, I sign out at about 8:00am a couple of days later.
Maybe it will help some, I sure hope so! I'd be glad to do it. I think I was camping on that Thursday and Friday, but I'll check. I was alone, as my wife doesn't often camp with me unfortunately.
I was camped between Trinity mountain and Mt. Floyd, probably south-south east of the line shacks. I call them line shacks because that's what we called them when I lived up in Nevada and did some resin jaw work,(riding fence for days at times).
Regarding the ladies that were talking about Jim, they were saying that he was shy I think because he was so polite. Some of the guys that come in there are rough around the edges, and the ladies have to realize how they live out there on the Boquillas.
No offense to "Merry", his supposed girlfriend, but she doesn't sound credible in my opinion, from what she said here.
I gotta go for now, keep in touch. Rick

Thanks Rick, Every little thing has to help. If there are names there to check out we should. If there turns out to be no names, well, we will be able to at least check it off the list. Good Luck.
Do you know if they have hired someone to fill Jim's job yet? Take care and be careful. And thanks again, Close Friend.

Seems like Rick fell off the web or something. After all that harping about the sign in sheet, and saying he'd go check for himself. Sure would have thought he'd answer back with the results. Wonder what the deal is??

The "desl" is that I've been busy with other matters. I went to both sign in kiosks, and there are too many folks to detail here. In addition, I have been having computer virus problems.
Apparently there were a LOT of hunters on the Boquillas at that time.
The authorities will have to take matters in their own hands and do a thorough investigation from this point on.
I was able to determine that I was not on the Boquillas at the time of James's murder.
I regret that I can't really determine what happened at that horrible event, but like I said, the authorities will have to take it from here.

If I hear of any other details or input, I will most certainly let you all know. Even though I did not know James, I feel very badly for those that did know him.
