My heart and best wishes goes out for your family. I pray that you find some kind of closure in this tragedy. My wife works at the local Chevron, and she will keep her eyes and ears open.
My best guess is that it had to be someone from this area that did this. Who knows why though, as I hear that James was a great guy.

Thank you Rick & pleae tell your wife that we appreciate her keeping her eyes & ears open, this has been really hard on the family. Yes, he was a good person & don't know who would want him dead. Thanks again....

Hey Rick, why do you say someone local is involved?
Just a curious thing to say.

Hi, because I know the Boquillas ranch very well, and although I don't know where James lived, I do know that the line shacks out there are fairly isolated and difficult to find unless you know the area. More or less, I just used deductive reasoning to come to this conclusion. I may be wrong, but I have a feeling that he knew the person that decided to take his life.
Most homicides are perpetrated by those that know the individual. So, if this is true, most likely it had to be a local person that knew him and the ranch. I'm not sure, but there wasn't much hunting going on at the time of his death, which would reduce the number of strangers out there at that time.
Kind of an educated guess on my part, one may say. And as I said, I may be wrong. At any rate, I hope that the authorities can get to the bottom of this and find the person that did it.
My wife works at the local Chevron in town, and she knows most of the locals. Hopefully she'll hear something. So far, no luck.

Hi Rick, we the family agrees with u about my brother knowing the person that shot him... All the stories just seem to fit in that direction. My brother was a awesome man, and the way he lived ( rancher / cowboy ) he was just full filling his dreams. I don't know anyone he did'nt get along with, but there is that one person that wanted him dead & we pray every night that the authories find that one person & or anyone else that may have been involved. Thanksfor all your doing..... Jims sister....

Hi Connie, there's no need to thank me. I heard 2 ladies talking about your brother in a local store, and they were saying that he was a friendly and very nice guy during the rare times that he came to town.
I just feel that something must be done to get to the bottom of this.
One thing you need to know, and that is anyone but employees for the ranch, MUST sign in before entering the ranch. Put pressure on the Yavapai county Sheriffs department to question every single person that signed in at the time that the murder occured.
I know for a fact that this has not been done in its entirety as I was camping on the far southeast corner of the ranch, near Mt. Floyd, during the approximate time the crime occurred, and no one has questioned me.
The sign in kiosk asks for your name and license plate number. Then you place a red or green placard on your dash or rear view mirror. The placards have a reference number on them, and you also put the reference number on the sign in sheet.
I know the authorities have tried to find the perpetrator, but in my opinion, they haven't covered enough bases.
I surely hope this can be solved, as I only can imagine your concerns and grief. RIck

Rick, I wish I could be up their working closer with the authories. I see a lot of things that I would be doing that the detectives aren't & they won't tell you anything that they r doin. I don't think they have questioned any of the ranch hands but one. I was not aware that people had to sign in to enter the ranch, that is very important info. I believe the case has been turned over to the Flagstaff Detectives, but I will give the Yavapai sheriffs dept a call & see if they r involved at all. Have u heard if their r any suspects ? Or is the ranch house he lived in still under investigation ? We still have not been able to pick up his things yet... Thanks again .....

Connie, No, I haven't heard anything at all. I haven't heard anything about the house either, sorry.
I'm not sure where it's at, as some are very remote, while others aren't.

Anyone that is not a ranch employee, MUST sign in, or otherwise they are considered trespassers. THAT would be a good place to start an investigation, in my opinion.
When you can get out here and pick up his belongings, I'd get on the Sheriffs, and ask them about the sign in sheets.
Please keep in touch, Rick

Hello Connie , and you too Rick.
Wow, Ya'll haven't gotten his belongings from the ranch yet? I am sorry "they" are dragging things out. Connie, has the family had the funeral? There has been no obit, just the news story. I was woundering where jim is resting?
Hey Rick, do you know the names of the young cowboys that worked out there with Jim?
Connie, do you know Jim's girlfriend, Monica? Do you have any communication with her? Last I heard she's not been told anything either. Don't think she's even hearing fron ya'lls mom either.
My prays are with the family.

Hello, No, I don't know the cowboys. I asked my wife who works at the local Chevron in town, and she doesn't know either. Dang it! I wish that I could be more helpful, and I honestly think that the sign in sheet would be an excellent place to start narrowing it down some. SOMETHING concrete should be done to get to the bottom of it! From what Connie said, Jim was living his dream, which to me, makes a horrible situation even worse.
Take care, and please keep me updated. THanks, Rick

No we havent gotton Jim's things yet because the investigation is not over. Jim's obit came out in the Marshall Obit on 11-22-11 ( Marshall News Messenger ) & we had his Memorial on 11-25-11. Do I know Monica ? Of course I do, her & my brother were together for along time. I wish I knew how to get in touch with her, she was using my brothers cell phone, which the police took from her. Thats the only contact I had. Yeah, they r dragging things out!!!! Frankly I don't think they r doin a damn thing. I'm fixing to get some lawyers on the case, it's seems to be the only way to get the lead out of the police's asses. They dont't even have the consideration to keep us informed on what they r doin. Were u a good friend of my brothers ?

Yes I was a good friend and my room mate was his best friend. I was the last one he talked to or at least called before everything happened. It is Coconino County doing the investigation. I have some phone numbers I can give you but I don't want to post them here. Maybe you could email me

...just found out about this horrendous news. My sincere condolences to his family, and to all those who were fortunate enough to be his friend. I got to be for a little while, and will treasure my memories. I got to hear him sing and play the guitar, something that was hard on his gnarled fingers. I got to ride with him, and hear stories that made me laugh til I peed. I got to love him, as a lover and a friend. Somehow, I have one of his cowboy hats, cast-off when he bought a new one in Flag one day, and a worn pair of boots, cause crafty girl, me, was going to make a purse out of the boot tops. My heart is heavy. It isn't right, and I hope they find the killer. Did they bury him? or was he cremated? Where can I pay my respects?
