"I am going on what I was told (from UAW leadership) that Indianapolis Local 23 would not be closed or idled." And you know the UAW officials wouldn't lie to their members, as long as they are paying dues. Odd the "officials" know more than the industry experts. But I beleive my UAW leaders. Give me a break.

GM is dead. Factorys like this are turning necrotic and need to be severed. GM has already lost big dollar parts,(Allisons), why would this little factory be special? That's why I do not understand all the contraversy, UAW was 30,000 members, now 6,000. I don't see any adds trying to replace them. Just trying to get rid of the last 6000.

They are trying to pass the contract with the locals now. Why would they say they are closing when they need to ratify the contract. Once it is ratified, look out in 2011. Good by auto workers, hello service. Time to get retrained while you still have 4 years of pay. That would be the intelligent thing to do.

You auto workers have been too greedy and the bell will toll for you soon. I on the one hand would love to see you have to go out and get a job based on your actual skills, thereby dropping your pay by about 60%. But the problem is it screws up the economy for the rest of us.

Have the UAW opne a auto company and have the rockets science leadership run it.

Let GM be done, close down the UAW, and be done with it. The other 2 are also gone.

Management can easily promise you anything if they know they aren't going to keep you around very long. The last company I work for that had a union did the same thing. The union went on strike for about 3 days and guess what - they won! Yes, they were given an extra 15 cents on the hour and a few months later, management closed shop. Hooray for unions!

Solidarity forever, or at least for the few members who are still working (screw the retirees). After the plant closes, we'll at least have our pride. We sure did show that greedy GM who's boss. Anyone want to buy a bass boat?

Some of you don't get it, and as Forest Gump stated" Stupid is as stupid does". As goes the American industry so goes America. We are being conquered by economics, not war, and our so-called political leadership has helped to enhance this. Further, GM has actually helped with it's own demise by not building quality products for a number of years. Most of our toys come from China, and our cloths from somewhere else, now many cars are being built by foreign companies, etc.etc.

"As far as the plant closing or staying open, I'm not putting any energy on that," said Darnel Dawson, UAW Local 23 president at the stamping plant. "I am going on what I was told (from UAW leadership) that Indianapolis Local 23 would not be closed or idled."

Mr Dawson, the international headquarters didn't lie to you, the Local is not going to be closed or idled it just won't have any workers to represent after the PLANT is sold or closed. I bet your membership, who likely won't have a job in 4 years, are real happy to hear your reassurance that the local will continue to exist.

I have an idea, let's pass more asinine trade laws to further hollow out the middle class so we can get to a 2-tierd societ like India even faster.
That will justify the outdated Adam Smith school of economics.

You sound like a real economist speaking here, Wow,I'm impressed !!

YOU CAN'T HARDLY CONTROL YOUR OWN JEALOUSY CAN YOU? Because I guess Your Ideal country is that of just the RICH, and POOR class's GOSH! I'll just bet you must be one of those RICH ones HUH? Oh, and to you I say "TOO Fricken" Bad! Because we need the "Middle-CLASS" to keep RICH FOLK'S like you in line.

Can you say "THANK YOU" UAW, UMW, AFL,CIO,GWA, and many other UNIONs who helped make up the MIDDLE-CLASS, You can believe this also, most today, but not all on those lines, including skilled trades also, are College educated too. So Jealousy will get you know where. ITS ALL ABOUT AMERICA, and spreading the wealth around to all, not to just a select few.

According to the article, the plant received almost no work for the current line of GM trucks, the bulk of the present work being spare parts. The answer to the future of the plant is there for all to see. Very short term.

Jealous of what, Semp?
Jealous of no future job?
Jealous of producing crap?
Jealous of being lied to?
Jealous of being a number?
Jealous of being disposable?
Jealous of watching everything worked for lost?

I know that your union sheepherders use the “jealousy” card to negate any detractors, but it simply doesn’t hold water. First of all, I wouldn’t work in a factory for any amount of money. Those places warp your brain and sensibilities; you are a prime example.

I’m all for spreading out the wealth, but only to those who earn it. America is still a land of great opportunity but UAW dimwits seem to think that means it’s O.K. to steal, bully, and intimidate the company that pays your salary.

Now, on to your point that unions “created” the middle class. If the unions created anything, it was a generation of UAW middle-class slackers who have been told to believe they’re entitled to bleed their employer until they go belly up. Guess what? It’s happening. Tens of thousands of your brothers lost their jobs because of union greed and contempt for their employer. Entire cities have been decimated; take a trip to Anderson and see what your union did. Of course, the UAW built a multi-million dollar hall just a few years before the last UAW job left the city. Those are your all-knowing leaders.

And while your union controlled your minds with their dribble, they continue to steal from the people they’re supposed to protect…that would be you, dill-weed. Take a look at this website. It’s loaded with hundreds, maybe thousands of documented cases of union corruption, extortion and theft. And you agreed to let your union control billions of dollars worth of benefit costs. Brilliant!
