Most of the boroughs need to be consolidated into one big city. You have cities basically the size of high schools with their own mayors, police, fire department, etc. This is ridiculous. There is so much waste in this area because of duplication of services, its disgusting.

A good example:

There are three, count em three, libraries all within walking distance from my house. Two borough libraries and one city library. The duplication of services, the unneeded staff...its disgusting. And this is just one tiny facet of how screwed up this city is.

Merge the fire departments. Merge all of them in all the cities in Allegheny county, whether you call them boroughs, towships or cities. Merge the police. Eliminate all the mayors except for one. This is the reason why the city and county are in such bad shape. If they modernized and merged they'd be saving hundreds of millions of dollars a year.

Maybe this will be the way to give police and other city workers a chance to live outside the city limits. It's just too dangerous to raise a family in the city . The city schools are just money pits like the Port Authority. Pittsburgh's broke but if your a relative or know somebody you can get a job. Danny boy must be getting ready for a run at the White House.

The Fire Department's already told the firemen they need to live in Pittsburgh. They have a year to move. While I think its a stupid idea to force the police and firemen to live in the city, they're not changing their rules anytime soon.

Too dangerous to raise a family? If you believe that you're either nuts or a pussy. Or both.

A residency requirement for emergency personnel in general, and police in particular makes sense. It's a condition of employment, and if you don't like it, you can move on. And you can move on too, Pickle-putz, just because you're you!

It doesn't make any sense. At least not in a large metro area. Then again, little makes sense here in Pittsburgh.

WTF... where the sheer variety and range of housing options are the greatest, it makes the least sense to you, Freddy-boy?

The variety and range of housing options isn't the issue here. The idea that your employer shouldn't tell you where to live is, however.

It's a choice, Freddy... there is no "right" to be a city public safety employee. If the condition is applied across the board, it is the employer's right to set that- and any- term and condition not barred by law. Period.

And you didn't answer the question... which speaks volumes.

Again, an employer, public or otherwise, should have no right dictating where its employee's live. What's next? Your boss at McDonalds requiring that you live in the city your store is at?

More importantly, you didn't ask a question. Which speaks even more volumes.

Your opinion obviously holds little value to either myself or the City of Pittsburgh, Freddy, and its their choice to make, not yours (praise the Lord), and it's legally enforceable. So deal with it, little man.
