Such a tragic loss of a good physician and a good firefighter who were just trying to do the right thing and help others. I wish the families well.

Justice was served but there will never be justice for the families that lost their loved ones. Two extraordinary people that will never be forgotten. I wish their families well and send my love and prayers. My heart goes out to you all.

DR. Deibels father delivered my daughter. Better people than the Deibles would be harder to find. I can only pray that they find some peace in this nightmare.

Then why did he lie? That is why he is going to prison. I do beleive there were issues with insurance, the truck condition and DL. Hmmmmmm. Maybe he should have followed the rules of the road.

This was an accident. Due to the circumstances (on the turnpike, ran slicked, no law enforcement onscene for traffic control, semi truck) there was no way to avoid this. I can understand the conviction for perjury, but I think 10 years is too much. Now three families are suffering.

The reason why the judge threw the book at him is because he wasn't convicted of any charges related directly to the deaths. It's like sending Al Capone to prison for tax evasion--if you can't get him for one thing, get him for another.

This was a perjury case, not a vehicular homicide one. But it turned into basically a second chance to prosecute him for the deaths.

And why was he convicted of two counts of perjury, when he only could have lied once?

Here's an article from the St. Pete Times. It turns out that Jackson WAS prosecuted for manslaughter in the deaths, but was acquitted.

The system really cheated by throwing the book at him for perjury. If he lied, he should have been punished, but not given the max. It's like prosecuting people in federal court because you don't like the acquittal in state court.

Hmmm, your theory makes sense. Because all the railroads lead right to Walmart and Publix right?
The country runs because truckers do their jobs.
This particular trucker killed two people and deserves to be in jail. But coming down on all truckers...thats moronic.
That computer you're typing up, Tonto...that was brought to you by a trucker. Think of that.

This is another excellent example of why you should never, ever say anything to the police or prosecutors--just ask Martha Stewart! Everyone is Constitutionally guaranteed the right not to self incriminate themselves. Make the state prove their case--innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt is a fundamental freedom that protects us all!

I am a trucker, having driven for 4 years all over the country. The entire economy is moved by truck. Railroads are more of a backup, because trucks can go where railroads can't. Now, I am not sticking up for this driver, because I remember the original story. Just remember, everything that you see moved by truck at one time between production and the store. Stop a truck, and there will be widespread shortages of everything, and prices would double (or more). About the story, it sounds like he was given 10 years for perjury because the manslaughter was thrown out. President William J Clinton was impeached for perjury, but he kept his job and is still tremendously popular.
