Hi:
Well Lake Selmac is good size. Also has Monster bass in the lake plus the fish&game dept stock it with trout a few time a year.If you have a boat it's a no
wake lake. There is also lake Boland but it looks small on a topo map It's at a much higher elevation than Selmac. Then there is Applegate lake that is much nicer
tham Selmac I belive that you can go faster there "Applgate" if again you have a boat.

I visited CJ about 2 years ago and fell in love with it. I am looking forward to the day I can move there. $ are the only thing preventing me from moving right now. I have seen alot of growth in the past 2 yrs in CJ and am hoping that I can find a job there. I work as an office manager in the medical field. I love the people and the beauty of the area. I currently live in Napa, CA and can't wait to get out..

I was wondering what Cave Junction was about these days.Michael and I lived in a teepee up at Big Trees in Takilma in the 70's. Down the road was the Little Funky Egg Company, The Meadows and Magic Forest Farm communes.Cave Junction didn't like longhairs back then. They even had signs in the windows that said "No Hippie Patronage".Myself, Mike , Wally White Eagle and Black Michael were about as diverse as it got back then. Hope it has changed.

I also lived in a teepee (and a school bus)in Takilma. But it was only 10-15 years ago. I loved it! Both my kids were born in that valley! The town was well suited to the hippies that lived there. Hammers health food store and deli was booming and so were the swimming holes. Not to mention the "farmers" and the musicians and the artist! After my kids were born we left thinking that we'd go to the city and make enough money to come back and buy land. Still havnt made it back. When I lived there, there were still some "original" Takima-ites around, Like Indian Jim, Dread Lisa, Luna dove, Ja Levi, Bianca and Ray and their kids, Dread Mike, Smokey, Kay and Thin man and their kids, Some folks who lived over the swinging bridge, some who lived at the end of the road and made baskets, the sun star folks, Micheal Garnier of the now famous Out-n-about treesort , plenty of others, too. The Meadows and the magic forest farm were still happening, the compound too. Some many others...The dome school was the best place to go for music and a fun time and the weekends. Especially on Halloween! A really great place to be! I have heard that there is a tea and lunch house on the s curve in the middle of T-town. Is it still there anybody? PS. If you are reading this and think you want to move there DONT : unless you are a nature-lovin-potlovin-tye-dye- wearin-freak who can hang with outhouses and limited bathing, long hair and colorful clothes. Somethings,-hopefully-, never change!

First, I would have to say that I am not very happy with our local schools myself, but if you are going to talk about people who can't spell you might want to at least use "spell check" yourself. Portland. Great place to raise a family.

Hey it's been interesting reading your stories. I knew many you and you and Mickael when you lived in the Teepee and I lived in the Barn. I still believe much of the same as I did back then. Only now the world is so much worse and everyone is asleep! I thought Jesus was about to come back then, now I know it's soon...I left Takilma, but Takilma never left me. Love you All!!!

When I was 10 in 1969 we lived in a hippy camp with my recently divorced Mom. I've been trying to figure out were it was since I've been grown up. I'm pretty sure my bro and I walked to Lake Selmac from where the community of tents were. We also used to drive up to the top of a small mountain nearby (on the scariest winding dirt road ever!) to Joe Chankin's (spell?) place. He handcrafted leather sandals and brass jewelry in his barn and had goats and donkeys roaming around freely. I still have the ORIGINAL sign that was taken from a shopfront window in Grant's Pass saying "We do not solicit hippy patronage" and I treasure it. Does anyone have any pictures or knowledge of Joe or this camp near Lake Selmac? I'd be the flower child in the patchwork leather poncho holding the puppy! Love to hear any other stories or see some pics. Christine

Short sighted, poorly managed, this is a place old folks are sent to die. We had a chance to vote in card rooms but guess what, the stupid lions club and the less than honest local chamber of commerce could not get behind it and it loss by just a little. This is a town time forgot. They have no concept here of local activity out side of the old folks club that also has card rooms on certain days. This is about hating others then making every thing boring as possible. This is a town that needs a real change in leadership and a honest Mayor. we have none and it shows.

My Mother, Ann. My Brother, Toby, And Sister Marianne, And I. Lived in the meadows. I want to say it was about, 1968-70? I remember memories of living in a little cabin, With a loft. There was a family, Whose daughter's were named Eva. the older. And Auora.(spelling) We moved to Holland Loop. And My Mother Hooked up with a Great Human Being !! Named Brad Thompson. at the meadows I remember, A man who had dark hair, And kept it in a braid. a 2 ft D.F. log across the River. Was our only way across. We had a Newfoundland Dog named Guiness.I fell off the loft of the cabin n split my eyelid on the cookstove. Jerry Bottenstein helped my mom n Brad move that stove. He had an old Teal, willys jeep. IN holland. We lived next to Michael n Donna Buelli.Spelling) Michael ended up geing a dentist in Eugene If anybody remembers my family. Please let me know at bartraikesplmb@yahoo.com

I used to live in Cave Junction and moved because of a lack of educational and economic opportunities.I'm sure that you will try to tear me down because I am now a "Californian" and therefore must be a "yuppie" and like "ugly" California houses whatever that is.The town in California that I live in is smaller than Cave Junction. Not everyone in California lives in LA or San Francisco. One of the main reasons I left the area and my Family(old school CJ/GP)is the mentality of people like you.Always spouting off with hatred towards the government while colloecting their government paid entittlements the whole time.About 70% of people in the CJ area are on government assistance and I didn't want to raise my kids around that mentality. If you really hate the government so badly then quit collecting your welfare check. All of us tax payers will thank you for it.

So I just moved here after I got out of the army and was stationed in new york(nowhere near the city) and I love it. its quiet, people are friendly as long as your friendly to them. it has a quiet confidence that you dont find anywhere other than towns that know they can survive on their own. I didnt really catch the typical rudness that most californians do when they move up. yes its hard to find work but it is out there. took me almost 5 months to find it but I found it. now if only there was a way to find friends my age to hang out with.
