With everyone panicking and questioning the decisions of our Federal and State Governments. Everyone has their eyes focused on things that don't always effect us here at home. Maybe we should change our focus.
Mayor of Wickliffe, Lynn Hopkins, has been making some decisions regarding our City that are outright ridiculous, and against the well-being of our citizens. Decisions such as hiring employees that have recently been released from jail, allowing city employees to use city lawn mowers to run a personal mowing business, and allowing a homeless man to live on city property, funded by your tax dollars, when he could easily be taken to a mission in Paducah. Let's also talk about these new City of Wickliffe Vehicles. Certain individuals who work for our city, have wrecked vehicles and gotten new ones. The city of Wickliffe is reportedly "Broke" but has enough money to buy our City Employees a brand new Dodge Truck, and fairly new Ford Truck, or two. Also buying a new Kubota Mower. For a city with no money, these new commodities seem to be piling up.
This thread will more than likely be deleted, because of the content involved. City Hall will see this and have it brought down immediately.
I think, we as citizens, should be allowed to know how much our city employees are being paid. If we are "broke" we should know where our money is going to. How much are these ladies who work in City Hall being paid, how about our Mayor himself?
I understand the need to pay attention to state and Federal Government actions, but maybe City Council Meetings should be watched also. Maybe our Mayor isn't quite the angel he is portrayed to be.

You talk about him hiring people released from jail. So I guess what you're saying is people that get out of jail don't deserve to work even though they've paid there dues. It's people like u that cause other people like felons who are trying to better their lives not to be able to find a job so they really don't have a chance in the world. You also talk about a homeless person living in state property. I guess since he's down on his luck we should just kick him to the street we shouldn't try to help him at all. You make me sick!!! Maybe you should worry about what effects u and quit kicking people while they're down

I thought exactly the same thing when I read that...pretty much you want the homeless guy to get help as long as you don't have to see him? He can be a homeless person in another city, that's just fine!? Same with people who've done their time...just wow...I used to think wickliffe was a "love thy neighbor/judge not yet ye be judged" kind of town. Sounds like this Wickliffite is a "unless your perfect like I am you shouldn't be here" type of person. Wickliffe looks so much better in recent years than it has in a long long time. Less empty businesses now, and if you've ever lived in another town then you would know our water bills are way less. Sure it has its bad parts too, like the annoyingly stupid speed bumps and every so often my water looks like its straight out of the river lol but for the most part wickliffe is a great town to live in!

Does the mowing business have good rates? I've been looking to hire someone to mow my yard that doesn't charge an arm and a leg

Don't knock Guy. He has been in Wickliffe since the day he was born. He wasn't homeless until the 2011 flood when the river took his house. The city got his land and the house he lived in. They made money from that deal.... the house, I assume, they either sold or are renting since it is out by the Dollar Store. They are doing right by putting him up. Personally, I am glad they have a program that puts people to work after jail release. I had rather have them working than breaking into my home or cooking meth. City vehicles....another story. The city needs the trucks, but I wish the employees took better care of them. They drive them like they were on the racetrack at Talladega. Don't know anything about the mowing except I know the city has a lot of ground to keep up. Only wish the council meetings were at a different time of day. Kind of hard for working folks to make 9:00a.m. meetings.

I make $22.50 an hour for City Of Wickliffe, Mayor Lynn Hopkins pays my gas for my personal truck, work truck all my lawn mowers, and weed eaters. He also bought me a brand new 16 foot trailer red with a spring assisted back gate, and I get my water and sewage is free. I am hopping for a new Harley next week. Got three city commissioners on board just have to get a few more. Now I was man enough to put my name you should put yours!!!!!!!!!

The meetings used to be held on the first Tuesday of every month at 5:30 p.m. This was changed by council vote over a year ago. The 5:30 time was good for citizens who want to come to meetings. The current meeting time is at 9:00 a.m.

I don't live within city limits, so I guess my opinion isn't really needed, but the first comment never mentioned Sam Dennis, Bethany, or Will. But all three of you are getting pretty defensive about the comment, and really for no reason. Until my name was brought up in it, I wouldn't have said a word. I guess it also looks great for the City to have its employees on Topix discussing pressing issues.

It didnt mention their names...but next time u try to drop in and try to be a clever smart*ss...do a little research first. When theres only a handful of people working for the city...then its really not hard to see who they are tryin to single out. And I dont see any of their comments as defensive...just givin yall a lil more to talk about and wonder...hmmm, is that really true? I know each one of the above mentioned...and I PROMISE you that whats said on here doesnt bother them a bit. Prolly sit back and laugh. Discussing pressing issues? Are you serious? Yeah, the city buyin Sam a new Harley or Bethany a new Mercedes, or Will...a weedeater (hahahaha)....is real pressing.

Fact of the matter is, as city employees, shouldn't they hold themselves to a higher level of maturity and not get on Topix and argue?

I'm going to say this as nice, as polite, and as succinct as I possibly can:
YOU DON'T HAVE FACTS! YOU DON'T HAVE A THING! YOU'VE GOT YOUR DICK IN YOUR HAND! THAT'S WHAT YOU'VE GOT!
IF YOU WERE TELLING THE TRUTH, YOU WOULD HAVE A PAPER TRAIL TO BACK YOU UP. YOU WOULD HAVE FACSIMILES OF PSCs. YOU WOULD HAVE PHOTOCOPIES OF CANCELLED CHECKS! YOU WOULD HAVE GONE TO THE STATE, TO THE AUDITOR OF PUBLIC ACCOUNTS IN KENTUCKY, AND GOTTEN THEM TO AUDIT WICKLIFFE!
YOU HAVE DONE NONE OF THESE THINGS! YOU KNOW NOTHING!
In fact, you could have just looked at their revenues vs. outlays and have seen exactly where the supply for this "broke city of Wickliffe" you keep referring to has gone. To the penny. To the farthing. Or read it when it is reported in the Yeoman or the Weekly, LIKE EVERY OTHER JERKOFF IN THIS COUNTY DOES! EXCEPT YOU, BECAUSE YOU ARE SO SPECIAL, RIGHT?
GET SOME SENSE, S**TBIRD!

I never said we were broke, I said that was what came out of the mayors mouth. My point was, according to him we are broke, yet spending frivolously?
