What are you talking about? Get back on the Obama bandwagon. You endorsed him for President in both the primary and general elections. You wrote so many gushing editorials and reprinted so many glowing AP stories about him that I could read your paper in the dark.
Tell us more about shovel ready projects. Are they all completed? But you inadvertently said one thing correctly in your article. By advocating using the tarp monies to create jobs ,you admit that Obamas' stimulus bill is a complete failure.

Another liberal plan to create jobs. How long does it take for you to understand that Government only creates temporary jobs or other government jobs? By the way, the average Federal worker now makes an average of $71,000 a year plus benefits others would love to have.
Could the lack of increase in jobless benefits perhaps have something to do with the unemployment office was closed for two days for the Thanksgiving holidays? We will see in January.
You state the Government should not let off the gas. Really, so far their programs have not been cost effective for any jobs they did create. The private sector creates jobs through lower taxes and policies that lead to a platform for knowing the effect of government policies for sound decision making.
Cash for caulkers? Get a life, do you remember how much cash for clunkers cost and it did nothing but take from one month and give to another?
Business does not want a tax credit in this unstable period of government policy. Why increase hiring when you do not know what the effect of giant proposed revamping of our society will have on your business?
You state that banks need to be talked into lending more, I believe that was done by the government when they forced government agencies to lend to those who couldn't afford homes. These bad loans were securtized and the damage by loan failures was the primary cause of the current situation. Forget about the returned TARP funds, they were promised to be used to reduce the deficit, stop going back on government promises.

Any fractional improvement of the percentage of those who are unemployed is simply manipulation of information. Obama has not done anything that would significantly impact the unempoyment rate. His ocntinued efforts are in creating more dependency of the people on the government. This further his policitical agendy. You editorial misses that completely.

The above posters all make very good points. To their arguments I might add that Obama and his merry Democrats have created tremendous business uncertainty. If they're serious about creating jobs they need to suspend Obama health care, energy cap and tax, and their deficit spending which is crowding out capital for private investment needed to create jobs and wrecking our economy.

The government doesn't create jobs - business does. Because of this, the best thing the Obama administration could do is simply get out of the way!
Reduce corporate taxes, reduce regulation, etc.
TARP has been a disaster so far... http://www.usatoday.com/money/industries/bank...

The $200 billion TARP. This was never real money. The mint did not print 2 Billion one hundred dollar bills and truck them over to Citi bank. The transfer of funds was a blip on a computer screen balance sheet .Nothing more.

To think this is a sort of windfall is stupid. Just write this off what was created as instant national debt.

Drill here and drill now!
