"I mean why arent they worried about the family of the 24-year-old Xavier Arriaga that was struck and KILLED bye the Amtrak Train."

Because one would assume that a man hired to work near railroad tracks has been trained not to get hit by the trains that run on the tracks they are working near.

In any case, I hope to see the findings of this investigation and determine why this guy was on the track.

This goes the "Spokker" from Los Angeles, CA.
You anger me with your sense less comment!!!
Of course these men are trained to be safe on the tracks! If you had any common sense you would at least take in consideration and know there is alot going on around these men. Loud machine equipment, by passing traffic from the street, not to mention the rumbling noise of the 40 trains that passed through with in the 3 hours while they were DOING THIER JOB. What is your problem! "IN ANY CASE" you should not be putting out heartless comments so that the world will be reminded that there are ignorant, selfish people out there. Not to mention the broken hearts of family and friends that might read your comment.
One more for you. The man was NOT on the track. He got pulled by the pressure of the suction.
ASSHOLE!!!!!!~~~

Getting sucked into a passing train is a myth. And even if it were real, you'd think such things would be taken into account when working on, around, or near the tracks.

Even BNSF didn't know why their contractor was on the track.

Like I said, I am waiting for the investigation to be finished. There are a lot of questions surrounding this incident.

My heart goes out to his loved ones. I'm saddened to hear that he was just trying to move an equipment out of the train's way. He is a real HERO for saving those passengers' lives. May he rest in peace.

I would just like to say that he was a wonderful cousin, uncle, friend, son, and brother. It was such a senseless accident and no one was prepared for this tragdy. Xavier "Boo", will be missed and remembered forever by his family, friends and love ones. We should focus on kindness and respect for his family, they are mourning a hugh loss. He has forever touched so many peoples hearts and lives. He will not be forgotten.....his memory will live on!

To those considerate enough to not talk shit like Spokker, my family & I THANK YOU!

My cousin was trained well, because he went back to move the equipment off the railroad because as a trained railroad worker he knew that if the train had ran over the equipment it would have derailed causing more than one death. So yes my cousin is a Hero!

Our family is going through enough right now & we are looking stuff up online to try to get as much information as possible. But when we find heartless people like Spokker leaving fucked up comments it hurts us even more. I'm not a heartless person like Spokker, even though now after reading your comment I wish it was someone you cared about instead of my cousin so that you could feel what we are feeling right now. But since you believe getting sucked into a train is such a "myth" why don't you go try it & then post another comment letting us know if it's true or not. Maybe it'll help the investigation since you're so interested in it.

My pastor was one of the Police Chaplains called to the scene of this trajedy, and he shared a bit of his experience at our Wednesday night service. As a Vietnam combat vet, my heart goes out to the co workers that witnessed this horrific accident, especially the man that was blaming himself for the death of his friend. All that posted comments here should be done with respect for the family and all of us should keep them in our prayers. I pass the location of the accident every day going to and from work and offer a prayer as I do. I have noticed a temporary memorial has been placed on the chain-link fence that includes an orange safety vest, just like the one I put on everyday as a utility worker. As safety representative for my work group, I will be highlighting this accident at our next safety meeting. Let's all work and play in a manner that enables us to return home to our families. God comfort the Arriaga family.

Xavier was one of the sweetest persons I have ever known. I am his mother's cousin and my heart aches for her, her husband and the entire family. To loose a child, regardless of how it happened or who was at fault, the pain and heartache is indescribable.
As for the IGNORANT Spokker who probably didn't finish school or obviously failed miserabley at it, do not speak about what you do not know. The train's high rate of speed plus it's massive size creates a powerful vaccum that would have pulled him in even if he was holding on to something.

I double dare you to stop at the side if the road and get out of the car and stand next to a big rig traveling at 75 m.p.h. you will feel something and it will not be a myth. I am sure you are the thoughtless one that does not pull over for emergency vehicles.
Why was that train travelling 80 mph when men are working on the tracks?
this was a senceless loss , that happened in my city practically in my yard and I am not impressed by the way the rail company's profit at all cost mentalyty rules the day!

You won't be sucked in, but I still wouldn't do it. You might even be hit by a ladder while you stupidly try to move a piece of a equipment that wasn't even in the way of the train.

I travel through that area on a regular basis. That equipment couldn't have been on the active line. There is no reason that guy should have been on the track.

"Why was that train travelling 80 mph when men are working on the tracks?"

The men were not working on an active line. They had no reason to be on the track the Pacific Surfliner was operating on.

I just want to send my condolence out to his family. And a reminder to others. You might not know what it feels like loosing a love one, so instead of putting hurtful remarks, you should be thankful that your family is safe and praise the Lord everyday for your own life because you could be alive one minute but you don't know about the next! I do not know the family or the real reason as for what it happened but regardless of what it was we should respect that ones that aren't among us anymore!. RIP Xavier.. He was so young and had a full life ahead of him!! family arreaga I'm sorry about your lost!.

"You might not know what it feels like loosing a love one"

Who *doesn't* know what it's like to lose a loved one? Do you think this is the first time someone has lost someone they loved? Do you think I've never lost somebody I loved?

As someone who rides the rails every day, I would like to know what really happened, so that others can be trained and precautions can be made so that this doesn't happen again.

Unfortunately the BNSF doesn't seem to be talking so I doubt we will hear another word about this story. It's a shame.

If the guy turned out to be a hero in some way, that's the story I'll accept, but there is something fishy about this incident and I hope the truth comes out.

"as a fellow worker of xavier i can assure you of your ignorance regarding the myth as well as where we were working"

Then by all means. Tell us what happened.

If there is no myth surrounding getting sucked into a train, why aren't you trained to not get sucked into a train?

If the equipment was so close to the active line that the man felt it was necessary to move it, why was the equipment on the track in the first place? Did you guys put it there? Did BNSF put it there?

The southbound Pacific Surfliner that hit him was leading with its engine. The man was hit by the ladder on the engine correct?

How could he have been sucked into the train, hitting the ladder on the engine, when the engine was at the front of the train, where there is no vortex, presuming that a vortex exists that actually sucks people into trains.

Mythbusters did a test on the getting trained into train myth. Nothing got sucked into the train!

Spokker,
When you said "Do you think I've never lost somebody I loved?", I assume that you HAVE lost someone you loved. Try to think back and remember how much it hurt you. Now, think about Xavier's family who are hurting right now. What do you get out of saying negative things? Are you that miserable that you want others to be miserable?! You don't know what happened out there. Everything you typed here are YOUR OPINIONS and THEORY. I know that you have some goodness in you. Please stop arguing with everyone here and keep your comments to yourself. It really doesn't matter who was at fault. The sad reality is, Xavier is gone. His loved ones won't be able to see him again. Please have some compassion for his family, friends and co-workers. Unfortunately, ACCIDENTS happen. I still believe he is a HERO for trying to save those lives.
----------
To Xavier's loved ones,
There is absolutely nothing I can say to make the pain go away. My heart goes out to all of you. I never met him but I know how it feels to lose someone. I hope and pray that God comforts your hearts and gives you strength. Xavier may be gone but your memories of him will be with you forever. God bless you!
