Joe Zarate was a wonderful man. Don't hate and judge him because you don't know the full story. Some can't handle the heavy bumps in the rode as well as others. This man also had Mercury poisoning which sometimes causes one to have suicidal thoughts. Don't speak unless you're fully informed.
Wasn't it lead poisoning?

Really, enough with stop judging. We all judge on a daily basis. I've heard plenty of parolees say, "Only God can judge me." Yawn. Yeah, while on your earth you will be judged. Enough with the self-righteous comments.

Zarate was a fraud and anyone that fell victim to his scheme is no better. Stick to the facts, he was an abuser and committed a felony. Enough said. There are plenty of hero's in this world, be it a teacher, a Marine, a police officer or a little league coach. Zarate puts the word hero to shame.

Wow! First, you have entirely too much time on your hands! Second, it seems to me that you have not worked through the emotional issues caused by your experience with domestic violence. I, too, have been a victim of domestic violence; however, I would NEVER feel the need to defile a....
DV Victim provided some insight into the history of this man's systemic disregard for women's safety. That's a lot better than conjecture. I want to know how he was able to teach if he served time.

I was one of Joe's Sergeants. I really liked his upbeat attitude and his enthusiasm as a Police Officer. Guys like you Student will never understand the mental make up of a LEO. You do not possess the integrity and sense of pride in being able to help people. There is also a code of honor that is deeply ingrained in to our minds. It's called the," Law Enforcement Code of Ethics". Read it sometime, that is, if you can read. You obviously can't write too well. Anyway, this Code stays with you for the rest of your life. It tells you how to live and how to conduct your life so as to be an example to others. Joe took this to heart and I know that on that day he took his life he realized that he had broken his vow. I know it was not the fear of "doing time" that bothered him. Having no criminal background up until that day, he would probably been put on probation or given a very light sentence. Certainly not five years. No idiot, I believe it he was overcome with such shame at letting his students, fellow police officers and other friends, down that caused him to do this act of self-destruction. I won't bore you anymore because most of what I wrote could never be comprehended by an unfeeling, blithering fool such as you and others that printed negative comments about Joe Zarate. God have mercy on you, you poor excuse for a human being.

I too am a police officer and feel zero pity for Joe. Maybe Joe was a good person at one time, but he went off course. While I understand family and friends feeling pity; the general public should feel none for him. As far as criminal conduct, you are sadly mistaken, he did have a criminal past. He had at least one misdemeanor case of PC 273.5(a) a case which was orginally a felony. He had the case removed from his rap since he had never committed a crime before. This occurred after completing a batters program, probation and weekends. Joe lost is way a long time before this incident.

One of the major problems here and with other cases is society not holding people accountable for their actions or making excuses for them. Whether Joe was a great teacher or a police officer is not the point. A lifetime of good deeds can be erased by one event.
