this isn't too bad, actually i think it's pretty good! at least everybody gets treated fairly and equitably under this system. usually the harder you work the more you get screwed. the only problem i feel is that it targets those that work while those that don't escape sharing the burden. sorry, the only fair system is a consumption tax in my opinion.

Ryan Carter must be a product of the current California schools. His statement that withholding will rise up to 10% is incorrect mathematically.$3.41 of a $34,000 pay check is .01%. So your individual making $34,000 annual or $2,835 monthly would see 28 cents (.28) additional removed from their paycheck per month. Less than a Starbucks, less than a candy bar, less than a first class postage stamp.
Not that it is right for the state to keep "taxing" us, but let's get facts correct. and where's his editors?

If you see the word incumbant on a ballot, do not vote for that name. They have all screwed us, and are smug about it.

Actually, it's not a tax increase. If you owe $10,000 per year in state tax, that will remain unchanged. All they are doing is collecting more withholding earlier.

The reason there is witholding in the first place is so that people don't have to fork over the full $10K on April 15. Instead, they fork it over a little at a time over the previous year..it's withheld. By the state having this money well in advance of April 15, the state can spend it, collect interest on it, invest it or whatever.

Now, they'll just be witholding more, earlier.. so that they have their grubby hands on it for longer. However, your total tax bill at the end of the year will remain the same.

The article stated that $3.41 was the weekly increase in withholding for someone making $63,000 who was married with two dependants.

Also, the 10% increase in over what was previously withheld, not 10% of your income.

I don't have the charts in front of me, but someone making $63K gets approx $1211/week. Having $34.10 currently withheld per week is roughly 2.8% of the income, which sounds about right. Increasing that by 10%(or $3.41/week) means the witholding goes up to $37.51/week.

So, it sounds about right.

If you are smart, you will take a look at last tax year's IOU fiesta and reduce your withholding so that the state does not end up owing you money. That was disgraceful.

This is B.S. They should take a 75% paycut and eliminate welfare before taking more money from the people who actually work for a living. People are struggling to get by as it is and they think they can just keep taking from us. We should just drag these inept politicians out in the street, tar and feather them and run them out of the country.

Goody! Goody! Gumdrop! Way to go Liberal hack. Once again this article uses the term legislature when it should say: Legislative Dimocrats. They have to protect their own.

SURE the ones that cant get a decrease from their paycheck and free health benefits are the ones taxing the great people of California to death. Regardless of amount, its shameful to tax citizens more out of the pockets because theyre the ones that made the bad decisions so we pay for it. EFF them!

Daily Horoscope for December 30

Taurus

It's no good - the prospect of visiting the post-Christmas sales has become too tempting for you to resist any longer. No matter what you're doing today, you'll try to squeeze in the opportunity to dash around some of your favourite shops and see what's on offer. You could snap up some bargains but you should guard against the urge to splurge on items that you don't really want or need. The price of something may have been slashed but the acid test is whether you'd still buy it if it were full price. If not, leave it in the shop!
