Good for the board. They don't have to say why to anyone but Harris. I am sure he knows. Good job board.

Well, it took long enough. They discovered this back in the fall so why the wait. This should have been done a long time ago. Wonder how much they are going to have to have to pay him off?

the board has lost confidence in the man. He can not be trusted so they can not have him around.

Earl, Mary and the rest of the comment makers on this board...
Why do you rush to judgement. Do any of you know all the facts in this case? NO All you have heard is what the board and the media have reported.
You are all ready to run and pass judgement on a man who was Superintendent of the Year only one year ago! Mike Harris ...as one of you stated ...was not "full of himself"...he is a very humble person who seemed to love the kids and the RCISD community. I never once say him act like he was "someone special"
So let's all stop throwing words around when no one on here knows the truth. Unless you are sitting in the grand jury room, then you don't know the truth. I've heard the rumors but no one has proven them.
What if the grand jury does not indict him and does not have enough evidence to proceed? Then what happens? That will really make the board and everyone else seem foolish for letting such a great leader go. I personally don't think they have much if any evidence or they would have fired him along time ago and the grand jury's case would be moved forward. Either they have a photo of him getting gas or they don't. Now we have to wait and see if Mr. Harris files an appeal with the state..which I hope he does...and hope he wins!

I agree with the RC Patron. However, usually the prosecuting attorney doesn't take a case unless he thinks he has a pretty good case. They just don't waste court time for nothing. So obviously they have something on the man. I know it is tough when someone who we think is so good does something bad. But I agree, Royse City will look foolish for letting him go IF they have no evidence. And they will look foolish for keeping him around and hiring him in the first place IF he is indicted. Titles really mean very little.

Hmmm...Your former superintendent of many years is in a court battle...You get rid of a good man, Clint Carpenter after only 2 years...Now you are treating Harris the same...I still say something is up there...You just aren't happy with a new superintendent after having a superintendent of several years who is said to have stolen from the district for numerous years that no one wants to believe.

Don't feel bad it happens everywhere , happy to see your board had the u know what to stand up and do whats right If they had the evidence against the man. Mark Twain once said- God created idiots. That was practice... then he created School boards!

Dear Mr. Wondering about ROYSE CITY...You obviously are not from Royse City or you would know that the town is spelled with an S, not a C. That would account for your ridiculous statements about the superintendents in this town. The only person who has been accused of stealing from the district is the current superintendent. The former superintendent never stole anything only made a mistake in procedure. It never went to trial! The case with the current superintendent is waiting for the grand jury which means that the district attorney, who is not from Royse City, thinks there is a case. You need to check your facts.

I wish everyone would leave the Royse City school board alone. They are doing the best they can with a very difficult situation. They dont' get paid for being on the board and all they get is criticism. How about some praise for a job well done. They are trying their best to take care of the schools. We all want a good superintendent, someone who cares about the schools and teachers like Mr. Fort did. It seems like it is just taking a long time to find somebody.

(RE: WONDERINGABOUTROYSECITY'S COMMENTS::)In regards to Clint Carpenter, you don't know the facts. He was fired also..and paid $200,000 to leave the district along with his wife. They almost sent this district into financial ruins! After they left, teachers couldn't even go on a field trip because the district didn't have the funds for a sub teacher! That's how bad it was! Just ask any employee who worked under them and you'll hear the real story of spending thousands and thousands of dollars on equipment no needed.
So back to Mr. Harris...I believe the man is innocent until proven guilty. But everyone on here and in Royse City is ready to just say "guilty" and move on. It's not that easy. This is a man's honor and career we are talking about. Does he not deserve the right to a fair trial? Does he not have the right to challenge his termination if he was wrongfully terminated? Yes he does. So let's all sit back and the truth will finally come out.

hey... this is Mike's daughter, my name's Jami.. n Im 14. For all of the people here that believe my dad's guilty, no offense but you all make me sick, reading this makes me want to cry .
Im about to be a sophmore at RCHS, and a few years ago i lived in Slaton, Tx. Our school board nominated my dad for Superintendent of the year for the region.. which resulted in us traveling to Austin for him to be picked out of 4 other great leaders to be Texas' superindentent for 2005.. He is so humble, and he would NEVER take anything away from the school, his main focus are the kids getting the best education possible..

He DID NOT steal the gas, the accusation was out of anger of workers that didnt like the way he ran our school.... Last fall i played in a basketball league in greenville, 20 minutes away from RC, but we lived in Forney at tha time...So my dad would park his truck in the bus barn and we would ride to the games in my mom's car, across tha lot were the gas tanks he was accused of stealing from, the evidence that their side has was 5 pictures of his truck, me getting in the truck, and a few of him walking around the truck after my basketball games.

My father's such a great guy, i wish all of you that believe differently could spend a day with him... He's honest, and he's so trustworthy, ALL he cares about is children.
This is really hard for the family, and I've never ever seen him this sad. His life is working for the school, and since March when he was put on leave, he's been at home all day, soon we'll have to sell our house, and probably move becuase of the school board ruining his rep. He definetily doesnt deserve this, becuase all he did for Royse City was help.

Earl : The board has lost confidence in the man. He can not be trusted so they can not have him around.

Please dont say he can't be trusted, if you dont know him. He's a great man and if you did know him, i know you'd agree with me.

Jerry - There will be alot of people at the hearing from Slaton, you can ask them yourself..Im pretty sure they'd tell you exactly what Mary did.

Richard - They won't be starting without a leader, The school's business manager is going to be the temporary superintendant, Jimmy Butler, Who is an old friend of the family, He worked in Winters with my dad, and from experience i can tell you that he's going to care for the kids just as well as anyone else.

But I heard that he wasn't even denying it. Sounds guilty to me. GOt his hand caught in the cookie jar I say.

It's things like that that make me the maddest, by what facts exactly are you assuming that he's guilty? Did you read the article in tha DMN that he was proven innocent? I know you have a right to your own oppinion, and my own boyfriends dad works in the Bus barn where all this started, and from that side of the case - and all the papers and news twisting this around to make a good story out of it - I know it can sound completely different than it really is... So I'm asking you to not jump to conclusions if you don't know any of the facts.

Stealing is not the only reason for a person to be terminated from his job. If the board was going to use the gas theft as the reason they would have waited until the trial was over. There must be some other reason for the termination of Mr. Harris.

Mike Harris is a very honorable Christian man and is being slandered in the press. He did a fine job in Slaton and we were sorry to lose him.
