i'm sure everyone is trying to cover something up and still living here with their families. come on! and this is not maria's only "cause". personally, i'm sick of hearing her name
I never said anybody living in or working for the town was covering anything up. People like you are the ones saying I think that. I asked for help to find an explanation for the number of illness in our young people.Your comment that this is not my only "cause' is false because I do not have a "cause" that I am working on. As for the people talking about me I'm sorry your sick of hearing my name but don't worry yourself about it they are just giving somebody else a rest.

Well now you see it's a year and dhec is still looking for an answer to their medical mystery. Channel 10 WISTV reported they want the parents of all the children to call them to give permission to look at the sections taken from the gallbladders at the time of surgery. When I asked them why they didn't do this a year ago the doctor said we weren't smart enough I guess. It doesen't take a rocket scientist to figure out if you have a toxic landfill 400 feet from the intake station to look there first. Oh yeah dhec said there is another county that is in sc who's percents are higher than ours which is 4 times the national average but they not going to say anything to them at this time. Allso where the school is built was used for military manuvers in the 70's and crop dusting before that no testing was done on the school land before it was built but they have not officially been back in touch with school building officials since March even though they sent them a letter requesting information on the school property. They want to compare the gallbladders and see what common denominator they find in the sections wheather it is a chemical or not.

Isn't it amazing that since the story first broke about this "problem" back in the spring - the number of gallbladder surgeries among teens has dramatically dropped in the Whitmire area (I've heard of two!). Looks to me we have doctors looking for a quick cure ($ removing gallbladders $) instead of first treating with medication. Poor diet and lack of physical fitness are the main culprits here.

As for the dump site and water supply - DHEC regularly checks the water supply. It is safe!

On a personal note - don't you hate "ambulance chasing" lawyers who thrive on the misfortunes of others? When this story first came to light in early 2007, the vulture lawyer ads began appearing in our local paper and now a lawsuit is being talked about - cleaning up a dump site that has been closed thirty years (not even proven that there might be a relationship with the gallbladder issue). These lawyers have $$$'s in their sight.

Give the proper officials time to determine (through testing and research) why there might be a "problem". Regardless of what you think, you cannot resolve this overnight.

I still believe it is mainly poor diet (greasy foods) and careless doctors.

With all the technology here and now it blows my mind that the government thinks NOTHING about draggin their feet to do something that takes one week to accomplish. Instead, they take MONTHS to just get phone calls done. They haven't even COMPARED tissue from the diseased gall bladders?

THE LANDFILL IS LISTED AS A HAZARDOUS WASTE LANDFILL BY THE STATE OF SC NOT US. IT IS ON THE SUPERFUND LIST TO BE CLEANED UP SINCE 1994. THIS IS ALL PUBLIC INFORMATION. AS THE MAYOR SAID MONDAY NIGHT PERHAPS DHEC IS NOT TESTING FOR WHATEVER CHEMICAL THAT COULD BE CAUSING THE PROBLEM. THE ENOREE RIVER HAS NEXT TO THE WORST RATING BY THE EPA NOT US. DHEC ALLSO SAID THEIR IS ANOTHER COUNTY IN THE STATE WHO'S NUMBERS ARE AS HIGH AS OURS WHEN ASKED WERE THEY GOING TO LET THEM KNOW THE DOCTOR SAID NO WE'RE GOING TO WORK WITH YOU PEOPLE SINCE YOU REALIZED YOU HAVE A PROBLEM. THE LANDFILL NEEDS TO BE CLEANED UP REGUARDLESS IF YOU LEAVE IT IT ONLY GETS WORSE OVER TIME.EVEN THE MAYOR AGREES IT WAS A VERY STUPID IDEA TO PUT A LANDFILL NEXT TO A WATER SOURCE.IT IS GOOD TO SEE THAT MOST OF THE CITIZENS OF OUR COMMUNITY NOW REALIZE WE HAVE A PROBLEM AND WE ARE NOT AFRAID TO STAND UP FOR OURSELVES BECAUSE IF YOU DON'T DHEC WILL NOT TELL YOU ANYTHING.15 DOCTORS FROM UNION, NEWBERRY AND LAURENS REFERRED PATIENTS TO 9 DIFFERENT SURGONS
SO IT'S NOT JUST ONE OR TWO DOCTORS. IT'S ALLWAYS EASY TO TRY TO BLAME SOMEONE FOR YOUR PROBLEMS BUT THE HIGHER ROAD IS TO FIND THE SOURCE OF YOUR PROBLEM AND JUST FIX IT BECAUSE WE CANNOT CHANGE WHAT WAS DONE 30 YEARS AGO AND PERHAPS THE PEOPLE IN CHARGE THEN DID NOT KNOW WHAT WOULD FOLLOW YEARS DOWN THE ROAD.THREE YEARS IS NOT OVERNIGHT. AND WE HAVE HAD 4 SURGERIES IN 2007. DHEC SAYS WE HAVE A PROBLEM AND THEY ARE SPENDING A GREAT DEAL OF TIME AND MONEY TO FIND OUT THE CAUSE OF IT.11 CHILDREN ON THE MILL HILL BETWEEN BROOM STREET AND GARY STREET HAVE HAD SURGERY.
