I'd rob banks, before I accepted SSI and let them control what and how much I can own, all for just 5 or 600 a month.

Garnishing SSI (Supplemental Security Income) is against Federal law.
Any State which does such a thing is doing it illegally.
Tennessee doesn't even bother to fight it, I have no idea what is going on in Kentucky.
Remember though, SSDI CAN be garnished, perhaps THAT is where the $60 a month minimum is coming into play?
i recieve ssi. and pay 60.00 a month in child support in ky.. cs said cannot take it directly from check, it has to be mailed in! but i dont know who to contact, child will be 18 in a few months...

i hope you aren't someone who is evaluating ss or ssi recipients. simply because when you go to apply for social security it is now mandatory that you be disqualified for ssi. the sole reason ss a federal program will so quickly turn your claim over to ssi a state run entitlement program.

when you are approved for ss disability you have a 2 yr period to wait before you can get medicare and medicare part A is provided free(which pays not much more than zilch) and to have hospital coverage you will have 110 dollars taken from your check each month and then you will pay 30 to 60 dollars on top of that for drug coverage( which also is schiet) and of course above all that you are responsible for 20% of all charges hospital or doctor.

now if your ss disability check is low enough you can get state aid to pay for the 20% you will have to pay, and hello how much money is left to have anything.

on ssi disability you will get your draw ,free medicaid, automatically qualify for food stamps, about 100 dollars/person.

i believe the top draw for ss disability or ss in general is 1600 dollars a month. minus 110 for medicare=1490 dollars, minus 50 for drug coverage=1440 dollars, minus 20% of all medical bills ( which is usually around 100 dollars a month)=1330 dollars, minus your drug copays on top of the premium you already paid, usually around 100 dollars also=1230 minus 100 for food=1130 dollars, minus your rent or house payment because you aren't eligible for HUD (usually around 200 dollars=930, minus at least 100dollars for transport one way or another to the dr.=830 dollars, for a lifetime of work.

but truly now all this was the high end of ss and most people never made enough to draw the top amount, but any way you slice it why not just not work and make yourself ill and just go through life enjoying that 600 dollars a month.

i never said dependants got ssi, i said they got medicaid, foodstamps, transport to dr., free glasses and a mutitude of other entitlements. i think if ssi had an age limit except in dire situations it would be a better run program, if you can have mental problems at 18 and get ssi how will you ever know if you could have worked through the problems. the 7.5 million ss receivers are very upset they had to work while they were crazy to get their little pitance.

On SSDI and receive 1600+ a month, after years of working. Taken several long years to finally get approved for that. Believe me, there aren't any faking injuries, these days. SSI is quite different. Usually, there are some sort of mental or nerve trouble, involved with SSI, instead of actual bodily injuries, or is received as a supplement to a very small SSDI check.

Until you suffer a mental illness you will never know that there is really such a thing as mental disability, and don't even get me started on nuerological disability, my Mother has sever Nueropathy, constant pain and weak as a kitten, took her 5 years to get SSDI.

Idiot, 16 states ad a small amount of money to the Federal SSI benefit, that does not mean it is a State program.

Now really, is there need to be this rude when discussions are started? I know sometimes it can be hard to remain civil but at least try. Who knows? We all may learn a little we didn't know before.

I may be mistaken on this, but I believe that if a parent is considered disabled, the child or children then draw off of that in some way even if the parents are divorced.

My friend gave up his parental rights because he could not afford pills and pay child support. The grand parents and mother were glad to get him out of the childs life.

You still have to pay child support when on SSI, but may be able to get it reduced.

NO, SSI can NOT be taken for child support.
SSDI (Social Security DIsability Insurance) can be partially taken for child support but SSI (Supplemental Security Income) is a means tested benefit for people who have not paid in enough to get regular SSDI and by federal law can NOT be taken for child support.
A person on SSI has in-equivocally proven that they are 100% disabled and destitute and are 100% permanently unable to support their children.
My Wife was being sued by her ex-husband for child support, she was unable to work and filed for disability. When her SSI came through they immediately closed the case and even removed the back owed support from her credit rating.
I pay 239 each week even though the judge knew that the only income i recieved was ssi for my two sons. One son is two years behind and the other son who had cancer but who is cancer free as of right now. But yet i was still order to pay support. My son leaves with the grandma but my x told the court that he lives with him. Any info at all you give me would be so appreciated.
