Just looking for some pics from it. I found a cool article about it here: http://www.skrecc.com/dsk/dsk_apr98.pdf

but would like to know if there are more pics out there that people can show me. It was a huge storm.

Let's see some pics if you have em.

i remember that snow storm of Feb,98 we was without electric for 8 days i called the weather station in Jackson and the guy there kept telling me we was getting rain i called back later and he said it would pass through quickly i called again and let them know our electric was out and had 20inches on back deck he didn't believe me they got caught off guard on that one big time. but i loved it our family had a great time playing in it we had some good old quality time together it was a adventure for us cooking on our wood heating stove playing board games & cards using candles and flashlights just the 4 of us i would love to have another one like it, also do you remember the big snow in march 93? that one was a surprise too i would love to see pictures of both of them.

That was the big storm that "caused" many babies to be born in the fall of that year! My daughter was one of those snow babies! That was a wonderful snow storm!!!!!!

Yeah they had said from a dusting to two to four inches...I was only 9 at the time and I remember we had to climb out our window and walk to my aunts house because she had a generator. There were trees popping and falling all around and it was just scary. No power for a full 10 days at my house (In Hayes Creek, Strunk, Ky) and no school for 3 full weeks if I remember right.

Remembering...I hope you can find them and post a link to them if you upload them to the internet...obviously you will have to use a scanner if you have one to get them on the PC but it would definitely be worth it...I was just thinking how bad I wish digital cameras and camcorders were as common as today so we'd have tons of pics.

Hopefully some people here can dig up some. I read that McCreary County was the hardest hit county in the state...and from the pics in the SKRECC newsletter I believe it.

I live about an hour and a half from McCreary County now but I miss Kentucky and hope to move back some day...but you can still see all around where the trees fell down in that storm. It totally changed how the scenery looked in most spots

In Tennessee? As of Sunday there was probably 2 inches total here from Thursday-Saturday nights snow. Today most of it melted as it got to 43 degrees. It's still there in the shaded parts and on a lot of the back roads. Schools are on a 2 hour delay here tomorrow. This is up on the Cumberland Plateau north of Crossville.

I have quite a few pictures. I remember when I finally got able to go to work, driving hwy 27 looked like it had been hit hard. All the sides of the road had felled trees right next to the white line that had been just cleared. It would give you the eeriest feeling just seeing it. We were without power for almost 10 days. We were some of the fortunate ones though as we heat with a wood stove. I will try to find my pictures and post them on the picture album.

I remember that well. That was my senior year at MCHS. We were glad for the break, believe me. Still got outta school on June 3rd. Driving down 27 and other major roads, with the felled trees like you were talking about, reminded me of one of those old Soviet war movies....and it was an eerie feeling. But it was the best time spent with anyone, though. I got to stay with my grandmother. We all had fun, playing board games, eating from meals cooked on a coal stove and reliving the "pioneer" days.

I'm an oldie that lives in Strunk, KY.. I've been retired for several years. It was watm the days before because i got out the old fishing pole and hit thriver. Then out of nowhere It was here the biggest snow that I've ever seen before or could remember seeing in MC. My wife and I had 4 family members staying with us because they had no heat and we burn't coal to stay warm. If I can find some of those pictures, I will post them.

As pretty as the snow was, also one of the most well known businessman died in a car drowning, Larry Sumner, Larry's Somerset Oil. His passing was a huge loss to our community. He always helped out people when they needed it as long as you hadn't tried to beat him. I miss my pal and friend, Larry Sumner, that is my first memory when I hear of the snow. He has two kids, Mark and Marlo who runs his business. They seem like pretty good people from what I know. Big shoes to fill!!!
