I wonder how many of my neighbors are having a problem with the noise generated from the new skateboard park in Whitinsville, located on the corner of Church St and Plummers Park.

I went to a town meeting in November 2008 and addressed the issue with them. I brought a few signature from the neighbors asking that some kind of sound proofing be installed to reduce the noise in the neighborhood. I called a few weeks later for an update and was told sound proofing was being considered. Nothing has been done to date.

Another neighbor told a city council man about the petition from the neighbors and asked about the sound proofing and he was unaware we signed a petition and gave it to the parks and recreation department, but did comment about receiving phone calls complaining about the noise.

I would like the neighbors to rally together so we may be able to do something about the noise generated. The park is suppose be closed at sunset, but activity goes on long after it gets dark.

I think it is great the kids have someplace to go with thee skateboards that is safe, but I don't think it was well thought out before installing.

Please leave your comments...I don't think I am alone with this being an issue.

We are having similar problems with terrible skateboard noise, and ill behavior here in Mt. Rainier, MD., with our brand new Skateboard Park. I am currently searching for high tech answers that might already exist. SoundGuard Sound Proofing Curtain, from Pyrotech was one that I found interesting so far, but I have just begun to search.I believe they assembled theirs in 4 days.

Good Luck,

How about you just suck it up. The noise is not that "terrible" and you should be very glad that there is a park there now. I doubt you would want them riding their skateboards where they should not.

Have you lived next to a skateboard ramp that is made of metal?? It sounds like a construction crew hammering a sledge hammer all day. I think the Park in a great idea, I'm just asking for sound proofing, not to much to ask for. They should have made it out of cement to reduce the noise factor. I just wanted those in charge to think things thru..
