The former student education driver turned former Columbus County Schools Superintendant. He is now the Columbus County Courthouse Administrator and married to Sherry Dew Prince. Mrs. Prince, even though she had failed to pay more than $80,000 in back taxes, is a newly appointed judge. Mrs. Prince, a former law partner of Senator RC Soles, is a previous head of the Columbus County Democratic Party.
Does anyone know how Mr. Tyler obtained this job? How long he has been there? What exactly he does? How many counties out of the other 99 have such a position?

North Carolina’s latest district court judge, Sherry Dew Tyler, has reportedly settled up some $80,000 in back taxes owed to the IRS. After her appointment to the bench, Tyler resigned her post as chair of the Columbus County Democratic Party. She gave the Whiteville News Reporter an interview last week:
“It was a public record and I disclosed that information to Gov. Bev Perdue before she appointed me as a judge,” Tyler said. She further stated that the matter had also been reported to the N.C. Bar Association and she has a 2006 letter from the Bar Association that indicates no wrongdoing.
“It has been my intention to pay it,” she said.“I’m not surprised that this has surfaced, now that the appointment has been made,” she added, but declined to comment as to the reason it would be brought out now. She also chose not to comment on why she owed taxes for those particular years.
“It has been there as a public record since before 2006 and I have not tried to hide it, but it doesn’t surprise me that it is an issue now that I have been appointed,” she said.

It has been some time since I left Columbus County. I was so glad to get away from such a corrupt area. By keeping up with some of the area news, I have been able to determine that the good ol boys haven't learned. What you have is a handful of thugs in suits running what would otherwise be a great place to live and work. From a head banker, to judges and other elected officials you literally have a Hazard County in Columbus County and throughout the district. And now I see that Mitchell Tyler had some sort of job created by RC? This is hard to believe in that he was forced to resign due to a scandle involving the land purchase for South Columbus school.
Will the citizens ever learn? I will pray for Columbus County and the district.
