Big Owl-------The "Hooter's Mobile" is the chief's new vehicle, we call it that because it is painted white and orange, which just happened to remind of the hooter's colors. I like the comment.

I'm sure glad that it's not because the guys on the FD wear the tight tshirts, cutoff shorts, and pantyhose! You had me worried!

LMAO, that could be another possibility. Well_Duh please do not sound so condescending, not everyone is entirely retarded. I know that orange is one of the school's colors, i went to school there, but I was just saying what it reminded us of. The color coordination is not what was in question, the purpose for the vehicle was. Please try to stay on topic, ever thought about that!! guess not.

I guess the wheels are black because that is the other school color?
Fire Departments and Rescue Squads all seem to have a "troop transport" vehicle, or a "command vehicle", to get people to the scene (instead of running every ambulance or fire truck). Maybe that's why they got it. Or maybe they got a grant. Or maybe they just thought it was purdy!
Where are they parking the helicopter they bought last year? I'm afraid it will clip me when I fly over the CFD station - who who?

lol. Well i guess i should have been more specific. The town bought the vehicle for david haynes, he keeps it at his house and no one else ever drives it. That i have seen, the only troops that it hauls are haynes and his wife. When i volunteered at another squad in the county, we had an excursion, but it stayed at the squad hall and the only way people were allowed to drive it is if it were something squad related, i.e. classes, competitions, extra assistance on calls etc.

Yep, that's what I thought the "Command" vehicles were for. I don't have a clue as to why one member would have a personal vehicle provided to them. But I do know that Chilhowie police officers get to take their cars home, even those who live outside the county. Seems like a great benefit, with gas prices and car payments and insurance being what they are. Maybe I need a new pair of wings ... I look good in black and orange!

Hmm... Did anyone think that at a fire department maybe the purpose of a QUICK RESPONSE VEHICLE is so the vehicle can be the first arriving unit on-scene to ESTABLISH COMMAND. How can a vehicle be a QUICK RESPONSE vehicle if someone has to respond to the station, pick up the vehicle, and THEN respond to the scene. There for by that time, the rest of the units could be on-scene. If your house catches on fire, wouldnt it make more sense for the command vehicle to respond to the scene and give responding units orders about where to catch a hydrant and where they are needed. Just wondering if anyone thinks into any of these posts or if you just dont have anything else to talk about? Sounds like a good use for a command vehicle for me...that was probably purchased with a GRANT!

Woo Hoo - somebody's a little testy today! I thought my feathers were easy to ruffle!

Just because it's questioned doesn't mean that the purpose hasn't been considered. I would bet that the use and restrictions were most likely decided before the vehicle was purchased and put in service. I'd certainly imagine a "quick response" vehicle is reserved specifically for that use. Even an innocent stop by the grocery store on the way home or to drop off the kids at school would cause lots of grumbling I'd bet, especially with gas prices what they are.(I'm glad I get 40 miles to the mouse - hoo hoo!)

If my tree catches on fire, I hope they bring the truck with the men and the water first! Yes, before you fire back - pardon the pun - I'm being a wise one. I understand the command vehicle sets the scene and establishes Incident Command, but so could the first responding member in their pov or on the truck. Does having this new vehicle prohibit other members from responding in their povs since the "quick response vehicle" is on its way - routing all members to the station to man the trucks? Is it used primarily for fire calls, or for rescue since the CFD does both? Now that makes more sense since a "quick response vehicle" would really make a difference on a rescue call.

Either way, it's public money, so I'd bet the chief would be glad to discuss it with anybody who stopped by the fire hall. He's a good guy, and I'm sure he wouldn't mind signing you up to help out and to learn all the workings of the CFD while you're there.

NOPE, NO GRANT!!!!! And honestly I think that if my house were to catch on fire, I would rather the first unit on scene be a FIRE TRUCK WITH WATER AND HOSE instead of some pissy ass tahoe. Even if it means that i have to wait the extra thirty seconds that it takes the chief to drive to the station from his house. Besides every time he rolls that tahoe, hes always the second to check out. No matter what the call.

CONCERNED, I've been there, first on scene waiting for the boys in the big truck. It's such a helpless feeling. You call in the status of the scene, do a quick sizeup, and update the first due with the info, hydrant location, traffic info, etc., then try to move whatever you can get to on the outside of the house to keep the family from losing lawn mowers, moving gas grills, whatever you can to salvage as much as possible until you get water and ventilation. Unless, of course, you have a possible rescue.

Most every volly with basic FF1 knows how to do sizeup, and how to use the radio, so unless it's a move to keep povs from clogging the scene and to funnel all personnel to the station to turn out geared up and in the apparatus, I don't know what the reasoning would be. Worth a call to the CFD, maybe?

CFD bills for rescue service, so I'm guessing that, if not grant, that's where the money came from. So I'd bet it's more of a rescue/life saving crew function that a fire "quick response" unit.

But what do I know? Except bright lights hurt my big ol' eyes - especially those on a Tahoe -- who who is running code??? Maybe I can audition for backup to the Fed Q!

Hoo Hoo - I have a new wing man!!!!

Now, should we take Haynes' tank and do some research at the nearest Hooters? You'll have to drive - I have a FWI - "Flying While Intoxicated" charge pending from the last big dance at the Moose Lodge. It's was gull's night out, and I had a hoot!
