"Whitethorn biker dies after horse trailer collision"

-Em... was Mr. Schaafsma a 'biker' or a motorcycle 'enthusiast' or merely a 'rider'?

-Was the impact with the horse trailer or the GMC pickup truck?

-Were the horses not injured physically, but suffered traumatic shock?

Public has got to know!

-Whitehorn? Thought the collision occurred near Garberville?

Mr. Schaafsma was an experienced rider but not what you would label a "biker'.

The accident happened in Redway, close to Eel River Bridge

We will miss him greatly

I can't help but wonder if this accident isn't somehow a spinoff of the irresponsible decision by the Redwood Run organizers to schedule the run this same weekend as the Garberville Rodeo (not to mention graduation and other events).
I would like to see a public apology from them assuring us this won't happen again. If not, I request they not be issued another permit.

Get real , the Redwood run brings in a lot more money than the little hick greased pig contest.

To Woods & Tinman12: Having been raised on farms, ranches and in the city, and being a person who not only rides a Harley but likes rodeos, I think you two should meet at Ruth and smoke a bowl.

sterlings got it right I personally think it was just a accident and has nothing to do with biker run or rodeo

Sterling, thanks for the tip but I quit smoking in the 70's. figured it was more important to pursue a career outdoors and not be laid out on a couch uttering gibberish and making shadow puppets on the wall. As I roll through Ruth on the Fatboy this weekend I will wave to "Woods" just to make peace. I do respect cowboys and ranchers, but Hollywood kind of tainted my perception with Brokeback Mountain. A real disservice to the American Hero. Ride Hard and Ride Safe

Why all the crap talking? The article didn't specify the deceased as being a criminal or parolee? Rest in Peace my man.

There is only one thing to do.... schedule Regae on the River the same weekend so the Bikers and Cowboys may come together to solve a common problem

I know of the Schaafsma family and I know that they were a group of hard working men. My condolances to the family

If you read the T-S long enough, you'll figure out that the police reporter doesn't ask questions. All the paper does is print news releases issued by law enforcement agencies. It was hilarious that the "story" mentions the horses didn't get hurt, but doesn't say a word about the truck driver.

tinman12: I wasn't serious about smooking a bowl! I quit that stuff 25 years ago. In short, I was just saying everyone should lighten up. The Redwood Run and Garberville Rodeo are both beneficial to Humboldt County. They bring money and jobs to the area. Having worked outdoors all my life,(Forest Ranger, logger, truck driver, construction worker etc.) I can respect those who live the rural life and will continue to wave at the locals as the old lady and I pass by on my 04-FLHT as we travel to the Redwood Run, or to my cousins place in Dos Rios, or to the cemetery in Willts to mourn my grandmother, or to ride over to Freshwater to look at my old house..........
