During the planning commission hearings in 2007 over the Reggae on the River permit more than one person got up and let loose about the huge scope of the drug market inside of the event. In 2006 it was considered by many if I remember correctly to be out of control with drug dealers lining up like vendors and people with guns coming out at night. This indicates a marketplace. The Sheriff report was scathing yet the local person speaking for that department glossed over the report and gave a green flag. It is commonly known there was a handful of DEA agents inside that event in 2006. Is this where the investigation began? Could someone ask that question please. Has the Sheriff's department just been misleading us all along?

How is this a "sting"?

I think this word doesn't mean what YOU think it means, T-Substandard.

Anon, I had the same thought. How were the intrepid Feds tricking the grow house into revealing themselves.

Kudos to the LE involved, but feel free to arrest those found with the dope.

Ah yes..."D.A." stands for "directly assisting"!
What person with a chronic back ache needs 99 plants in possession? Turn that over every 90 days, and thats 396 plants a year!!! The last case of multiple grow houses they prosecuted resulted in a 30 day jail sentence!!! You get more than that for beating a dog! Now us hard working tax payers can't keep up with the 215 Business License holders! Why "work" for a living?

450 federal cops running amok in Southern Humboldt County pulling up marijuana plants while the murder rate in the San Francisco Bay Area is sky-rocketing. What's wrong with this picture?

Well, Walter, it's like this:

If we uprooted every police officer to move in and concentrate on just one problem at a time, we'd be like the boy with his finger in the dike. Instead, different agencies specialize in different areas so that work is done on several fronts. Hence, we have several state law enforcement agencies (i.e. DOJ, CHP, ABC, Bureau of Insurance, etc).

When these raids all shake out, you'll find that the people involved are not your typical backyard Humboldt Co Grateful Dead folks, they are members of Mexican Organized Crime rings who are heavily armed and responsible for violence both above and below the border. The amount of money, the sophistication, and the violence involved in these criminal enterprises is astounding, and is something to which Prop 215 advocates turn the other cheek.

The intent of most law enforcement activity surrounding marijuana is not to go after some dude with dreadlocks in SoHum listening to Scarlet Begonias in his 21-window bus, it is to go after those who are involved in organized crime, shipping weed laced with God-knows-what all over our country.

By the same token, research some of those homicides in the Bay Area and see how many of them are drug-related.

Wake up, Walter, and put a little more thought into your comment next time.

Thank you, Wake Up Walter, for shedding light on the true consequences of what growing this "benign, provides money for the local economy, etc." drug are. One has to wonder how the news of the sweep arrived before the agents did?

I feel so much safer now. Like when we went into Iraq! The neighbors I have left are wonderful people. Maybe I can meet them after Judge Judy. I met some of the Mexican Cartel. They were two 19 year old kids who were recruited to grow pot by a guy in a bmw who picked them on the corner of army and mission in sf. I could tell they were or had been Mexicans because they left tortillas behind.

Well, I have to say it was divine providence that on Friday in anticipation of the feds arriving, the sky sent down 1,000 lightening bolts to burn the forests clear of all marijuana grows. The Mexican Mafia lost big time

Wow the world according to dumb dumb... This comment is for all of you HYPER HIPPIE MARIJUANA MAFIOSO-

So you and your hyper hippies are the finally authority on priority cases? Please enlighten me. What does a doper sitting in the woods covered in ignorance and self interest armed with automatic rifles really know about anything? Actually you are the type of jerk that would hide Osama bin laden. If I were looking for dangerous wanted criminals it would be in Humboldt, Trinity, and Mendocino Counties. This northern California area is flooded with malcontents, anti rule, anti law, sniveling, self righteous cry babies- What hard earned money of yours has contributed to society? Illegal earnings you spend on yourself does not count.

Remember all of your warm and fuzzy programs would not exist without tax payers money.... I said tax payers! Not dope growing, tax cheating murders.
