I have been complaining about this kind of situation for months now. The tractor-trailers are parked illegally along both sides of the entrances and exits of both rest areas, and the state knows it. I complained to the Governors office about this back in January, when I almost became a victim of trying to traverse a deadly canyon of trucks while trying to get off at Exit 158. You can't see some of these trucks in the dark, because they don't always run their lights, and if they jut out, even a little bit, it's all over but the crying. The Governor passed the buck on to some under-Secretary of the Dept. of transportation, who emailed me back saying they know its a problem, but that they can't enforce it for lack of resources (not enough cops). That's funny, too, because the property is posted with No Parking signs and everything. I wish they couldn't park on the sides of entrances and exits of the various highway Exits, as well. There is a State Trooper who sits in the median in the mornings, not even a half mile from Exit 158, and yet he does nothing about citing those trucks who park on the sides of the road there. Funny thing about that is, there is a truck stop right off this exit, too.

This has become a serious, serious problem, and now another person has been killed over it. Do something Governor Daniels, before someone else gets killed! Increase the illegal parking fine to $500 a truck. That'll keep'em moving! More than half of them are probably parking on already borrowed time, anyway, not to mention forged log books.
