if you people recall what i told you idiots years ago. the county gave the appalshop 25,000 dollars of our counties money to them. most of the courthouse workers eat at the courthouse cafe, summit city. now i read in the mtn eagle today thec ounty is going to be 1.6 million short in coal severence tax. hmmmmmmm 2+2=4. now looks as though you shot yourself in the foot. keep spending your money at summit city, courthouse cafe and the appalshop where the county can file bankruptcy. send your money right to the treehuggers whom have stoped the mining. while you are at it hire you some more treehuggers and pay them with county money, like barto, shad baker etc.... where they can have funds to protest mining and pay there dues to the sierra club. a dog has enough sense not to crap in his own house but apparently the county does not.

The county is going to lose more then that an need to.that horse an atv trail an rec center is more important something we really need.. water is something we really didn't need hell with the kids an people an the ones that got cancer I personally don't see why we need this can someone explain? I think we need to let are judge just give money to whom he thinks that needs it an spend it on what ever they want to..since he said "it's not my job to keep up were all the money is being spent" ..........sounds like the tourist is more important then the folks of letcher county I can't say if I don't agree with judge ward he is rite the tourist is more important then the citizens Ty

Maybe the county could help appalshop buy another building like the one across the bridge from appalshop to expand their yardsale capabilites. That may be one way raise tax money but then again why not charge to use the horse trail as they do the Rec center.

i thought it was the letcher county extension office? i thought he married the gish's? spo you saying the gish's aint trteehuggers? are you saying mr shad baker is not a member of the sierra club? are you saying that the sierra club does not protest mining practices? are you saying the appleshop is not connected to the kentuckian's for the comonwealth? maybe just maybe you are the one that isn't clear.
looks like hardollar might be correct on this one.

The letcher County extension office is running by the state and the univeristy of kentucky.it is not affiliated with the county in any way...just because it has letcher county in the name means nothing....I dont dispute shad baker has those affiliations but saying that is jim wards fault is false.....I know derek and he is not a member of the sierra club and not a treehugger....I think harddollar and you are both wrong on this one

Instead of having a coal severance check, all the coal yall would mine, would be for yourselves. You'd have money for water, and dirt cheap, if not outright free, electricity. Surely, having the coal company profits going into the locally democratically elected government, would impact your region is a positive way. It's called the Commonwealth for a reason. That's our coal.
