Three people are arrested in Letcher County in connection with a chop shop.

The Letcher County Sheriff's Office got a report from a Tennessee company a few days ago that the GPS system in a stolen truck was tracking to Letcher County, but that was only the start of the investigation.

It started as one stolen truck, but quickly turned into a whole auto theft operation.

"When we went to the scene we observed a large amount of equipment, over $1 million," said Letcher County Sheriff Danny Webb.

Police arrested Henry Hall and Goldie Pierce in connection with the chop shop.

At another location in Deane, they recovered more than $300,000 worth of stolen vehicles where they arrested a third suspect Roger Tolliver.

Sheriff Webb says this is all about making money. He says the suspects took parts from both stolen and salvaged vehicles to make usable cars.

"They can take the stolen vehicle and take the parts that don't have any numbers on it and take it to the salvaged yard and resale it as a usable vehicle. And there is a lot of money in that," said Sheriff Webb.

The chop shop was located just outside of Neon.

Police did confirm that everything at the chop shop was stolen including the camper where Hall and Pierce were living.

"We are working with all the police departments at this time about what they have stolen and what we've got here that we recovered," said Sheriff Webb.

But it did not stop with cars, police have recovered trailers, campers, ATVs and excavators which makes this investigation one that will not be over quickly.

Police say more arrest could be made.

The Kentucky State Police Auto Theft Task Force is helping with the investigation.

Brian Damron with the Letcher County Sheriff's Office is over the case. Trooper Donnie White with Kentucky State Police and Mike Dingus with the Jenkins Police Department are also assisting.

Three charged for stealing a million dollars worth of equipment

WHITESBURG, Ky.(WYMT)- A Letcher County grand jury has charged three people with stealing one million dollars worth of trucks and equipment.

The Lexington Herald-Leader reports Henry A. Hall, Goldie C. Pierce and Roger Tolliver are charged with taking part in an interstate theft ring.

They are accused of stealing vehicles in surrounding states, taking them across state lines, and altering ID numbers to hide the thefts. The indictment also seeks payment of one million dollars.

As I remember, all three of these people were arrested about this time last year. The case must have been turned over to the feds since then. It was all in the Mountain Eagle in a big story about this time last year. I remember they had pictures of the cut up trucks at Hemphill and mug shots of the three people arrested. Can't believe it takes this long to get indictments. No wonder our judicial system is messed up.
