Well.....I am so happy to see that everybody has calmed down. Seems like the majority are happy if Anna has retired. I hope you get a "perfect" superintendent that meets all of "your" individual expectations. I am so happy I can't stand it.

I certainly hope they go back to where they were, but it is too late. All the smaller schools have been closed down. the best school in the county has been upset,(martha jane). In her tenure, the county has gone from small schools where a child could get individual attention, to a big conglomerate where a child gets lost in the system. they have traded education for cost cutting and a big sports team.I am glad my child got a good education here before she ruined it all. The name of the school should be changed from LLC to ALC (anna laura craft) she made the whole county the mess it is.

Schools consolidating in eastern ky isn't something new LCC isn't even the newest county to do this... Look at Harlan co. their big new school there combining what was it Cumberland everts and cawood I think....and pike co before LCC with East Ridge combining elkhorn, Millard and Feds Creek and years ago with johns creek and Mullins to make PCC... So there has to be some economical advantages that comes with consolidating that outweighs the disadvantages of adding 10 students to each class. So to say that ms craft consolidating the schools to have her own personal playground or monument is kinda rediculous.. Some people just can't let go of reality. I am in no way an Anna craft supporter but from someone who attended LCC It was a great experience and if any1 is worried about their highschool student being left behind then they should show them some personal attention at home on their class work because if u your child is not keeping up with the class at that age then odds are its a motivation problem not a one on one time problem

How come no one has mentioned the 90 minute closed door meeting that happened at the school board about the extra money that was raised for the band to go to DC for the Inaugural Parade? I heard the band director wanted it to buy badly needed instruments and was told that the money was frozen for now and would probably be used for the girls basketball team if by chance they went to the state tournament!!This I can believe, but you alwats hear all kinds of rumors
when someone gets the boot like she did.

As to the consolidation,Harlan Co.school is one of the nicest schools I've ever seen. The location is perfect for Eastern Ky,easy to get to,beautiful view of just mountains. Our school looks like it was built on an abandonded strip mine with them high walls all around it.I still can't believe they picked that sight but we all know that money talks.Everybody knows who came out on that deal.

its too late she already destroyed the county,s heart and soul when she combined the high schools i know it wasn,t all her doing but she was the biggest player in it i will never support lcc like i did my letcher eagles it was alott better when there were 4 high schools instead of 2 she always said the budget, test scores and enrolment were some reasons they were combined but that school has already over a 100 million dollars invested in it look how long the other schools could have run with that kind of money the only reason the schools were combined was so whitesburg would have a winning sports team again it was all about the sports not the benefit of the kids they can say what they want too now most of the kids are on the bus over a hour to long if they wanted schools combined why didn,t they combine whitesburg high school and whitesburg elementry and middle schools instead of the 2 big grade school buildings they could have put whitesburg high and grade schools togather like letcher had would have been a lott better so i am glad she is retireing the best one for the job in my book would be former superintendent bernard watts he was good and actually cared about the children

No one is supposed to talk about anything that goes on in a closed meeting. If any action is taken, it must be taken in open session.

It appears that many people are talking out of turn and just maybe, the board members are discussing board buisness outside of the board room. Not quite sure that is supposed to happen.

Although I do like smaller schools, the consolidation that has taken place in the Letcher County School System are a sign of hard economic times. I do believe that all 120 counties have county school systems; with some counties having more than 1 consolidated school. Personally, I would have preferred an East & West High School.

IMO... Anna Craft has done a tremendous job as superintendent. Do I like everything that has taken place under administration? No! However, looking at the big picture, I can honestly say that she and the board have accomplished many things during her tenure.

I do believe that when she lays down at night that she can sleep like a baby and be proud of the things she has accomplished as an educator.

hey info sounds like you are liveing on another planet yea right its a sign of hard times my rear she claimed it cost to much to operate the other schools well look the new high school has already cost over a 100 million dollars and they have not got all that was promised it was all about the sports especially basketball and football she just got tired of whitesburg being beat all the time take a look at he payday a 124 thousand dollars they paid the football coach 80 thousand thats crazy look how long they could have run the other schools with the money they spent on that school i will never root for lcc for anything... they should have left letcher, fleming neon, alone and just combined whitesburg high and whitesburg elementry into the new school then the county and the kids would have been better off thats my opion glad she is leaving

Once all you bitter older people that went to the closed schools die out the high school will be better off... LCC has been around now since 2005 bringing all the high school students together and ending these stupid rivalries and yet people still point at singular high schools for the reason they all joined together. I mean LCC isn't whitesburg it isn't Neon or Letcher it's LCC it's everyone's school. As soon as parents start letting the past go and encourage their kids to take pride in their new highschool instead of telling them that " oh u are from neon, those whitesburg kids are snobs" or " you are from whitesburg , don't associate with letcher kids they are beneath you" or even saying u shouldn't like neon kids because they are from the other end of the county from old letcher high school. The 2 years I was there at the beginning of the consolidation I really rarely seen any of the students acting that way. But it just baffles me that some people are still against what was done almost 8 years ago. I mean as a student there u have alot nicer facility and opportunities u wouldn't have at a smaller school. Also you meet alot more people that you would of never met otherwise. I am not originally from Letcher county but I had close friends from all over the county like Eugene Collier and Brandon Little from Neon, or Jon Haynes and Chris Fields from Whitesburg, or Cody Adams and Brandon Pennington from Letcher... If LCC wasn't my school I would prolly never met 2/3 of these people

If you think about it, we are writing the book on how to do this consolidation thing with a county school system here in East Kentucky. We can either do it "right" and have a good reputation or "wrong" and be the laughing stocks of the USA. I think that everyone has done their best to make things work for the benefit of their kids and their future in our Letcher County High School Consolidation. More good work must be done by our leaders and ourselves as fellow citizens. This situation of getting our county's public schools systems lined out is the starting point of bringing in "good" jobs and additional "great" things that other communities in our region enjoy. I'm about trying to fix things so that we are more competitive to get these things. One day we "will" get them. The sooner, the better for me. So, let's try to keep a balance in our discussions as we push forward with advancements that our leaders have tried so hard to bring us together and accomplish. If we can learn how to work together with this, no one will be able to stop us as we build the greatest region with the greatest people in the state of Kentucky.
