I'm curious to Savannah's reaction to the Food Network's firing of Paula Deen. I've enjoyed her shows on the Food Network and once went to her restaurant in Savannah. It was very good.

I don't condone what she did, but she couldn't lie under oath, and stated that it'd been a long time since she had said the N-word.

IMO, she's overcome much adversity to get where she's at; her children are riding her coat tails and are sponges; she shouldn't have been fired.

What's your take?

I saw a snippet of her apology. What exactly did she say and when?

I think it's a horrible word but I can't for the life of me understand why Paula Deen couldn't say it 30 years ago in a private conversation but young black males can say it every day. To me, that's racism.

I am from TN and just wondering: is Paula Deen respected in Savannah or does she have a reputation for being hard to work for? I heard someone on TV say it was her brother, Bubba, that is the problem. What do you local folks think? Thanks!

I agree with you - I have said and done things that I would not do again - LOL. But I would love to know how the local folks are feeling about Paula.

I truly believe Paula was always a redneck. She admitted to dating a married man, for years, and her manner is not that of a refined Southern lady. Caesars just released a statement that her restaurants will be closed in their casinos. I saw her on the Today Show, this morning, crying buckets. Matt Lauer asked her if she was crying for herself. I suspect she is crying for all the money she has lost, and future money that she is going to lose. Her sons may end up having to keep their mother up, for a change.

Hi Rita, looks like you are also from TN? I heard on CNN that Paula made $ 70 million last year - can you believe that? Hard to get your mind around that figure. Whatever happens, Paula and her entire family are set for life financially.

Several people have asked what the locals think of Paula Deen. Let me tell you what this local thinks of Smithfield Foods. I never understood why Paula Deen wanted to associate herself with Smithfield Foods in the first place. In my opinion, they're not the best company. They've been known to pollute the rivers around their nasty plant in Smithfield, Va with pig remains and have been fined. Their workers don't make a lot of money and many of them work there for years without really getting ahead and recently they sold out to a company from China. So, now our ham and bacon will be manufactured by a company that is from a country that has been selling us low quality items for years.

they just want to destroy all successful people with the ability to stand on their own 2 feet and have their own opinions. It is a Nazi movement tied to the Bush Dynasty. Destroy everything decent and honest in theit path. Just like Sherman's march from Atlanta to Savannah when he burnt everything in his path. Today they assasinate people souls and leave them alive to suffer.

If you are a disciple of God’s perfect and holy Son Jesus Christ, then Satan and his antichrist hate you.“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.”(1 Peter 5:8 AV) God, however, has a means by which one can avoid becoming the prey of Satan:“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”(James 4:7 AV) In order to resist the devil one must first know his plans and methods. This response will inform you of the plans and methods of the devil and his minions in their antichrist conspiracy against the LORD and his anointed. See Psalms 2:1-4.
only name they had

One of the N words was the only name they had in the 50's and up to sometime in the 60's. there was an accepted choice of negro or the slang word they thmselves all use today.
Sometime after the voting rights act they started being called colored.
Then sometime later Jessie Jackson come along and coined them the title of black.
Then about the time supreme court justice thurgood Marshall retied from the bench he coined them the title of African-American.
No body give a damn what they were called or who called them what until the Zionist Jews (the same
Jews that owned the slave ships and brought them over here from Africa and auctioned them off like cattle in the first place) decided to create DIVERSITY and divide and conquer this great nation with bull chet, race and homo sex bull chet.
We was doing just find without these fish poopers. We all got along and loved each other until the government got involved under pressure from Zion Jews and Nazi's that run this world and country.

Well, I don't eat ham and I am glad now that I read about Smithfield Hams - LOL. But I would still like to hear from the local folks. From what I have read, this mostly started with Paula's brother, Bubba, and now Paula is taking the hit for him. Bubba certainly is being quiet - guess his attorney has advised him to shut up.

It looks like this Lisa T. Jackson is being legally allowed to blackmail Paula Deen. If Jackson was so offended, why did she remain at this place of business? She even hired one of her relatives to work there also. Jackson, who is white, claims she was offended by the use of the "N" word. Sounds more as if she's ashamed and embarrassed of her siblings choice to reproduce with a black person. I know most families would. She (Jackson) saw this as an easy way to make some easy money and get her 15 minutes of fame at the same time. Evidently her and her family are all white trash, ghetto losers. Keep your head high Paula. People with common sense see this for what it is and as for Ms. Jackson, we consider the source.

Paula has no doubt, made a fortune through her efforts, and can live in comfort, for the remainder of her life. There should be a time, that even the people that have achieved super wealth should realize that hey, I finally have enough. If I were in her current position, I would consider the following. I grew up in a time that was much different than what is accepted today. Sometimes, I may slip and go back to my roots, and the way that I was raised, when speaking. If saying the now forbidden word, n****r is now able to take away a persons livelyhood, and condemn them forever, then our country is really messed up. Paula, take your fortune, enjoy it, and tell everyone else to kiss your proud southern ass!

This is nothing but a witch hunt. The media is making another attempt to stir up racial tensions just like they have been with the Martin / Zimmerman case.
The double standard has to stop. This woman used a word decades ago. What about all of the rappers who profit by using this word today? How is it ok for those people to use this word?

Btw every single person alive has uttered this word at some point in their lives. Get over it! Unless someone is going around harassing and being overtly racist give the woman a break.

I still say this is mostly about her brother, Bubba and Paula is taking the hit. Bubba is the one who created the toxic work environment. Bubba is laying low and no one else is saying anything about Bubba - very strange.
