I didn't know Garret, or Kelsey, but my son has known Kelsey for a while. I remember when he told me about Garret. I had a flood of memories of when my best friend died, then a little while later, when another friend told me her brother took his own life. I know the kind of feelings Garret's friends are going through. Nothing on earth will end that pain, but believe that nothing his friends did led him to do what he did. He loved each and every one of you, just as you love him. I am sure of that.
I hope that some day you all find closure in this, find a reason why he did this, and to his family I pray for you, that you find the strength to go on and that your hearts will heal just a little, I can't imagine your pain.
God Bless you all and I pray you find the strength you all need to get through this.

As I have commuted past the accident site twice a day, I always say a prayer for the Mezuk family and friends. I don't know any of you and I didn't know Garrett, but I recently went through a similar painful time. Even though you probably don't want to believe this now, time will help heal your broken hearts. Lean on the Lord as only He can bring peace. And know that you are in my prayers daily.

My daughter, Chelsea, met Garrett this past summer at Cedar Point. He helped make her "boring time" with her parents tollerable! What were the chances that this sweet charming boy she met in Sandusky, OH lived only minutes away here in MI! They only dated for a short time but his warm smile and outgoing personality are fondly remembered in her heart and in our lives. We can't imagine the pain you are going through, and can only pray that God helps to heal your hearts. With deepest sympathy, rest in peace Garrett.

Oh wow, I got teary-eyed just reading these. Seeing as tomorrow is Valentine's day, and Today is the one-month anniversary of his death, I feel for his girlfriend, Jennifer. I didn't know either of them too well, but I feel extremely bad for Jennifer. He will always be in my thoughts...

This song makes me think of what Garret's friends must think, how they must feel the thoughts that might run through their minds each day as they go through their routines without him. Each time I hear it it brings those thoughts to my mind. It's almost as if it was written for the situation.
It's by Nickelback, and it's called "Far Away"

This time, This place
Misused, Mistakes
Too long, Too late
Who was I to make you wait
Just one chance
Just one breath
Just in case there's just one left
'Cause you know,
you know, you know

[CHORUS]
That I love you
I have loved you all along
And I miss you
Been far away for far too long
I keep dreaming you'll be with me
and you'll never go
Stop breathing if
I don't see you anymore

One my knees, I'll ask
Last chance for one last dance
'Cause with you, I'd withstand
All of hell to hold your hand
I'd give it all
I'd give for us
Give anything but I won't give up
'Cause you know,
you know, you know

[CHORUS]

So far away
Been far away for far too long
So far away
Been far away for far too long
But you know, you know, you know

I wanted
I wanted you to stay
'Cause I needed
I need to hear you say
That I love you
I have loved you all along
And I forgive you
For being away for far too long
So keep breathing
'Cause I'm not leaving
Hold on to me and, never let me go

I didn't know Garrett personally, but I always saw him in school. He always had a smile on his face and he was always laughing and joking with friends. I'd always see him walking down the hallway singing "Laffy Taffy" and it never failed to make me smile. His death has had a great impact on me, I just wish I got the chance to know him. To his family and friends, I'm so sorry for your loss. Garrett was one of a kind and he will forever live on it our hearts and minds. Rest in peace Garrett Mezuk. It's not goodbye, it's see you later.

Mrs. Mezuk - I just want to tell you that you are in my prayers. I also wanted to let you know about the Compasionate Friends, a national support group for parents who have lost their children. My cousin - Steve Herrick - passed away several years ago and my aunt helps run the Livonia chapter. Every December they hold a candlelight vigil in Plymouth to remember the children and in 2006 they are having their national convention in Dearborn. They have a local chapter in Troy and the website is www.compassionatefriends.org/

My family met yours on the bus ride from the rental company to the cruise ship Feb 2005. All during the cruise, my daughter and niece hung around with Garrett, his sister and all the other kids they met on the ship. You would have thought they knew each other forever!

I remember so clearly his energy! How he sang at Kareoke and how much spunk he had!

I am so sorry for your loss! I have thought about this ever since Krissy told me what happened. I just had to post..

I would be happy to send you some pictures from that trip I have of all the kids together. I have some fuzzy ones of Garrett signing on the ship! I will check back here and if you post that you would like them, I would be happy to send them to you.

Again, our sincerest sympathies! Please know people from across the country are thinking of your son and your family!

God Bless!

I came across GMM's site on Myspace. He certainly touched a lot of lives...many prayers to your family Mr.and Mrs. Mezuk and Kelsey. Garretts death although has hurt you this most, certainly reached across the country and he is in the thoughts and prayers of people you don't even know. What a handsome young man he was....Stay strong when you can and when you can't lean on eachother...you will need that.
I had a good friend years ago who killed herself with pills. It devasted me for a long time. And I often think of her and how she touched my life. Focus on the good times that you had with him during his 17 yrs. And maybe someday, you will be able to help others from having to go through what you are going through now...which I am sure is unimaginable pain. Love, prayers, thoughts be with you...and may Garrett be in the arms of our Lord. Keep the faith. Peace.

Do you know how sad I am to hear that there is gossip about Garrett? Shame on them. Did any of the wagging tongues remember that he is not here to defend himself?Do they realize the pain his family has suffered? Do they realize his familys fight to put back their life has been an hour by hour day by day process just to cope with his loss? I cry everyday for the loss of my Garrett brown eyes,my granddaughter Kelsey, my daughter ,Bears mom and Tony, Bears dad.I cry for All the aunts uncles and cousins, you can't amagine the pain we have suffered.I hope all the wagging tongues never have pain like this.Remember Bear wanted to be a marine? You know the marine cry "Semper Fi" If you don't know it means Forever Faithful. To all Mott students please give Garrett a Semper Fi and let him RIP and his family to heal. Bears G'ma
