What he said was he wanted Bankruptcy Judges to be able to deal with residential mortgages just like the are able to deal with other secured debt. They can rearrange the debt so that the secured part of the debt does not exceed the value of the house and the rest of the debt is treated like an unsecured debt. They can do this with second homes and commercial debt, why not residential debt. No one would be doing anything like you suggest in your example. It is standard stuff in bankruptcy.
Good comment. He also made the point that in some cases it would be the difference between the mortgage holder recovering something versus nothing at all. I like to see some rationality on these posts.

What? Are you sure Engler didn't cause these jobs to go to Mexico? After all, Governess Jennifer has only had six measly years to correct all that has ever gone on in this state.

The only thing Repub. have done is hurt our economy. Bush is spending Billions of dollars each month and for what? To line his pockets and the war on Iraq. Which doesnt make sense when Iraq can afford to make Bridges and rebuild thier cities; we cant even give cheaper insurance to the eldery and what about social security. Whats going to happen when you need to withdraw SS and there isnt any left. Jennifer is partitally to blame but what about John Engler and the way he left Michigan.
What?!!!!!!!! The elderly get over $10,000/yr in medicare alone. They need to quit buying those run-around chairs they see on infomercials at 2:00AM every night and relize that we are not here to break our backs so they can cruise around their property in an unnecessary electric chair. Their parents weren't pulling this crap when they were working.

Alot of people talk about bad young people these days but the elderly are becoming increasingly socialist and killing this country. I think it might be because they are living longer and forgeting what it means to actually work for what you have.

Oh, and $17/hr is fair for the work done at Howmett and if they are moving those aerospace jobs to mexico they are stupid. I hope Boeing/GE/P&W rejects their poducts for shoddy quality and the company has to spend more money moving the work back to the USA.

Sadly, as long as Jenny is in Lansing, I have a feeling they won't bring them back to MI though.

I actually heard Biden say that he wants bankruptcy judges to RE-PRICE homes. He specifically said ADJUST THE PRINCIPLE AMOUNT of the MORTGAGE. That is SCARY.
Is it going to be the govt. who determines how much you sell your house for in the future? And who you sell it to?
If a buyer comes along and can only afford $50K but you are asking $125K, is uncle sam (Barack and Joe) going to be able to say; No, no, no you must sell that house to Ms. Juanita Hernandez for $50K, that is all her and her family can afford?
I say: But but I paid $120,000 for it 4 years ago.
Barack says: tough you have to sell it to Juanita for $50,000, that is all she can afford, or you go to jail.
Regulation is one thing, oversight is another.
The banking industry is what needs regulation.
Our manufacturing industry needs less.

Can't congress do anything right? Everything it touches it totaly destroys it.

it can't get social security right.
it can't get medicare right.
it didn't get the banking industry right,
and now it wants to impose MORE regulations?

lets face it - Congress isn't right - so its time to get rid of them.

Steve I agree with almost all with what you said. You have very valid points. However, No company commits to moving out of the country to build an sell their products without first customer approval an second making sure those products made are quality products. I see this daily in my current job. Yes, its sad to see jobs leave the community an state. Now, the one thing I do strongly agree with is Two Penny Jenny isn't making it easy for companies to stay in Michigan.

Free trade is a good thing. For free trade to work properly, there must be a level playing field. All too often jobs are shipped off shore to places where many people live in huts and ride bicycles. In a way, it is double exploitation. The people riding bicycles as well as the people here that are left without jobs are both victims of, I hate to say it, the same kind of Wall Street greed that is bringing this great land of ours to its knees.

How many Chinese and Indian factories are currently being built in the good old USA? If this latest mess tells us anything, it should tell us that the US is vulnerable to abuse and therefore we need to protect our country or we will end up without a country.

It's a matter of tax policy. The jobs in Ohio are not going to Mexico, at least not at the same rate. Michigan has lost 10x more manufacturing jobs than any other state, thanks in part to Micigan tax laws them penalizing businesses large and small for the privileged of operating here.

100 lay offs for now and a total of 309 people. More layoffs are likely to happen. And why is it when alcoa out sources jobs to Mexico and Ohio people in Michigan get laid off but yet Whitehall is earning record profits. I personally dont think Alcoa should be able to send jobs to Mexico while good working Michigan workers are losing thier jobs. Thanks Pres. Bush and Danny G!!
See if you UAW people would work for $2.25 an hour or pay your boss so you could work this would not have happened. Sleeping on the job and being drunk on the job is a no no maybe your next job you all can straighten out.

Funny how the Bush administartion has convinced so many that outsoucing our jobs, free trade, selling out our manufacturing and technology secrets to China IS SO GOOD FOR AMERICA. So sit back and stop complaining the top 5% are getting richer, you are patriotic in giving up your jobs and your children's jobs for the success of the few at the top.
