100 layoffs at Alcoa Howmet in Whitehall

An Alcoa Howmet official says 100 employees are being laid off at the company's casting facility in Whitehall.

100 lay offs for now and a total of 309 people. More layoffs are likely to happen. And why is it when alcoa out sources jobs to Mexico and Ohio people in Michigan get laid off but yet Whitehall is earning record profits. I personally dont think Alcoa should be able to send jobs to Mexico while good working Michigan workers are losing thier jobs. Thanks Pres. Bush and Danny G!!

I actually heard Biden say that he wants bankruptcy judges to RE-PRICE homes. He specifically said ADJUST THE PRINCIPLE AMOUNT of the MORTGAGE. That is SCARY.

Is it going to be the govt. who determines how much you sell your house for in the future? And who you sell it to?

If a buyer comes along and can only afford $50K but you are asking $125K, is uncle sam (Barack and Joe) going to be able to say; No, no, no you must sell that house to Ms. Juanita Hernandez for $50K, that is all her and her family can afford?

I say: But but I paid $120,000 for it 4 years ago.

Barack says: tough you have to sell it to Juanita for $50,000, that is all she can afford, or you go to jail.

What he said was he wanted Bankruptcy Judges to be able to deal with residential mortgages just like the are able to deal with other secured debt. They can rearrange the debt so that the secured part of the debt does not exceed the value of the house and the rest of the debt is treated like an unsecured debt. They can do this with second homes and commercial debt, why not residential debt. No one would be doing anything like you suggest in your example. It is standard stuff in bankruptcy.

NAFTA which opened the door to jobs going over the boarder was passed during the Clinton administration. What about Granholm? She has had 6 years to come through with her promises to turn things around. Let's give credit where credit is due.
