The snow is great, if you weren't around 20 years ago you don't really know what snow is.....I can recall jumping off our house growing up into large piles of snow, what a rush, and it was perfectly legal.

When did Michiganders become so soft? It's winter! It snows! Deal with it. Learn to drive in it, it's not that hard if you take your time. Make your kid's ride the bus or, heaven forbid, WALK to school. It's not that cold even.

If Fruitport hadn't already had one day off, they probably would've today. They call some of the dumbest days off otherwise. Totally surprised they didn't have buses on paved roads only today though.

AMEN to that!! Get out and get a JOB, stop mooching off the government. The careers are few and far between now, and that is something we all have to adapt to.

Schools are closed so kids head out on the roads to the mall..... lol.

Wimpy, wimpy, wimpy. It used to take a lot more than 5-6 inches of the fluffy white stuff we got this morning to close schools. What happened to kids riding buses (with snow tires) who aren't driven to school by Mummy or Daddy, or driving themselves in a fancy SUV. I can remember standing in the bitter cold and snow waiting for the bus at 6:45 in the morning. I'm alive, I survived....

I'm sure folks in the U.P. laugh at all us downstaters....

Please discontinue this 'Talk Back' portion of your program. Who cares what local nobodies opinions are on various subjects

THANKS!

Spring Lake schools should have been closed this morning, roads were terrible, and visibility was nil! After all, it is the safety of our children that we are talking about! Wouldnt want to be a school bus driver in SL today, give those people a raise!!!!!

You sure did use this function though, didn't you? They do not care that yourself, "a local nobody", wants this function removed. Go play in a snowbank.

So the teacher has no duty to make sure the students in the lab are on task? Or no duty to make sure that students are not on inappropriate web sites? Or no duty to monitor other behaviors that may be considered objectionable? I guess the duties of a teacher stop at lecture! And then people like you back them up even when they aren't doing what they should be doing! This teacher is in the building with students sitting in front of him. I don't care if it is a "lab" or not. Our children are in his care and he should NOT be surfing the net!!!
So, where do you tie up your kids when you're on the computer at home?

You assume I have kids? Why? What color am I? Where am I from? Am I Christian, Atheist, Jewish? How old am I? What do I do for a living?

Asking a teacher to keep an eye on their students is not a lot to ask. They're being paid great money to do it! You have REALLY low expectations for our teachers. Unlike you, I will not assume you have kids, but if you did, I hope you instill in them a greater work ethic than that required of you from our teachers!

HAHAHAHAH...danasue you are FUNNY. I totally agree with you. Give me a break people. Just like the poster replied back to Dana saying she doesnt know if that person is christian, has kids, etc...we have NO CLUE what the EXACT scenario was with that teacher and his students.

You might be reading into it WAY too much.

You're kind of being a hypocrite for saying what you did in reply to Dana calling you out!:)

You have NO IDEA what the teacher is like even if he did take a frickin MINUTE of his day to type a 1 sentence message on here.....get over it and back off....of dana and the teacher.

and FYI with technology today I highly doubt that the kids can even TRY to access bad or inappropriate websites...just a guess.

That's the joy of living in 2008!:)

I am a teacher certified to teach social studies and history with Master's degree coursework in Special Education. I worked in public schools for four years. In that time I have busted students for viewing objectionable materials. Some things get by the filters! When I was in the classroom, my responsibilities were with the students, not a WZZM 13 blog! I guess the culture of this country has gotten to the point where it's okay to not do your job and the people will be there to defend you for it!

And for those who don't know a teacher's daily schedule, they do have a half-hour lunch break on top of a 1-hour planning period (at the secondary level). If they cannot resist a posting, then they can do it on their own time, not when there are children in the room!

Many of you think it is better for school to be cancelled. There are some children who will not have anyone at home to look after him or her if school is cancelled. Most children need consistency and that includes having school everyday. If the roads are that bad and the plows can't keep up then a snow day needs to be called. It's not that we are not calling snow days because we don't have many left, they will be made up at the end of the year. As for our "giving days off for the heck of it", the state requires teachers to have professional development days to continue to educate us. Your children may be home but we are still working. It's not enough that we have to take work home and correct papers over the weekend and not get paid for it but now you want us to drop our PD, which helps us learn better ways to teach your children? I don't know, it seems like most of you just need something to complain about. Why don't you come to your local school and spend that extra time volunteering!

Ok, ok. I'm sure they do get by SOME filters, but for all we know this teacher had an assistant or another teacher or the librarian in the room too. For all we know the students weren't even started for the day yet (the bell had not rung or it was morning announcement time or whatever they call that in school.......). For all we know the teacher was sitting right next to his students ...and he only had 6 students and not 30 like most deal with.

The point is, we DON'T know just like we DON'T know if your white, black, single, married, have kids, etc...like you MADE SURE to point out.

That's all I'm saying.

and looking back at his post, he never said he WAS a teacher. Maybe he is an assistant/aide, maybe he is a student teacher, maybe he is a librarian. Don't ASSUME, you make an A** out of yourself!:)
