Anybody know who was laid off this afternoon? Are they really just layoffs?

I haven't been to see my son in Florida in years: now is my chance. Everyone in the layoff meeting today was pretty excited to get back to a routine.

I can assure you ( South bound ) that "everyone in the layoff meeting" was NOT excited to get back to a routine.
There is nothing routine about having your life interrupted, your stability come in to question, or your future undecided. There is nothing routine about belonging to something, and then not. There was some nervous laughter, but not an ounce of excitement.
Not sure where your place was in that room, but from where I was sitting, nobody was "excited".

I can assure you that there was not an ounce of excitement in the room as well, what I saw was the true Justice Love that has been produced from the Bible that Kmeic and a few others use, Mind you it is not the Holy Bible. They can all stand up and say whatever, but the truth is far from any of them. The Greenbrier in trouble for the 1st quarter, yea right? They just hired some people, like a new Electrical engineer that just so happened to stay and the Electrician been there for years layed off, this is true love 4 sure. Its all about busting the union people, get ready for it, its coming, guarnteed! Good Luck people!

I'm willing to bet that none of JJ's basketball players' parents were laid off. Their jobs are secure until he doesn't need their kids any longer.

So I heard that a lot of employees got "laid off" today! Who are they trying to fool? They got the boot. That place is turning into a joke. Who is going to run the place when they have fired everyone and who is going to work there with their reputation? It is never exciting to get let go from your job but there are bigger and better things to do and see out there in this big world! I just hope he pays for the way he has done these people all the while claiming to be a christian.

I am not seeing a lot of people talking about how great of a savior he is now all my "conspiracy theories" and "big business" talk had some bearing after all. He is so charitable giving away a million dollars in gifts yet not even a month later layoffs begin I have said it once and will say it again he is a businessman and will do the charity for the write offs and free publicity but when the wallet is crunched bye bye job I really feel for the people who were laid off because because it probably came as a big slap to the face with all of the talk that he did and how everyone is working towards that 5th star which is really hard to get if employee morale is low due to having no real job security.

Who was working for the fifth star? The woman they hired to train up people left because nobody cared or was working for it. A job is not a right. You have to earn it every day. If the hotel does not have guest, there is no money to pay the employees. Why is that so hard to figure out. And by the way, this is still America (at least for a little while longer)Jim bought the hotel with his own damn money, he can do what he wants. If the union wants to run the hotel, then let them buy it--or quit bi&%ching.

Screw you, you don't have a clue @## hole, yes everyone knows that a business needs to cut when ever the need occurs, its how its done, anyone that has been there anytime at all is the ones that are let go, not the new ones that are being brought in, its obvious what is going on, you are correct "he bought the Hotel with his own money, and this is not the union wanting to run it, it had nothing to do with the union, its about rich @$$ holes with no decency in them, that claims Christianity but only when it makes them look good. Apparently you haven't been screwed yet by the Million dollar Christian, and if you do you will remember it.

This has nothing to do with Union issues, and is more about how the company financially survives the next 4 months. I don't like it, but understand it. What I don't understand is how you herd 70+ people into a room that have served with heart - and have a 3rd party, non company representative read a prepared statement and have everybody out in 15 minutes. No personal statements from leadership. No exit interviews. No messages from human resources. Comes across as very, very shallow. From a company that expects the very best of it's teams I expected a little more.. class. There is a way to handle these situations and this was done incredibly poorly. If you can't demonstrate care and concern to your employees at a time like this, when would you? Does not instill any trust. Which is why I will be taking my family elsewhere.

Before we all met together to go over departure information our individual manager's spoke with each of us separately. I felt just as bad for my manager because I could see how difficult it was for them too.

You work for the union or the hotel. The hotel deals with a union like a subcontractor, because that is what they are.

Hotel, but the unions have representation and if your union rep didn't handle individual layoffs well blame them. Mr Justice shouldn't have to continually write personal checks for a business that is not profiting. You have to make cuts. While I am not happy I am stressed and worried. I don't expect him to support the whole county. He does a lot of charitable things and we should appreciate those things and not expect him to support all of us just so we can have a job. When it comes down to it it's just business nothing personal.
