From a family that has loved and visited The Greenbrier countless times during the past fifty years, I cheer Jim Justice and his exemplary and unparalled enthusiasm wholeheartedly! This West Virginian has literally "put his money where his mouth (and obviously his heart as well, thankfully) both may be found. By saving an American treasure from simply becoming yet "another property" of a generic hotel chain, our beloved Greenbrier will thus be preserved for our continued visits and for those of our children and grandchildren. This is a legacy that should continue to be pleasing to each of us!

I think Justice is doing the right thing for the Greenbrier. Younger people aren't interested in carriage rides, Croquet, and some of the traditional things that are offered there. There need to be things offered that are geared more toward a younger population. I think he realizes that.

I think that the Greenbrier is a very nice place, but on the other hand they can not compete with the other hotels in america. They should really consider keeping what they have instead of changing it all to get the star back. They have a gold mine with the asthetic appeal of the hotel they should use that to make more money and to get people to return, not build something else. The addition of the Casino will be nice but they need to consider what the long term effect is going to be and if the investment will pay for itself or will it be a total loss. The younger generation that comes to the hotel does want something new to do the activities that they have at the hotel are not geared correctly for the demographic they serve. I am sorry but i do not want to have to go to dinner in a damn suit. i dont want to have to pay 500.00 to stay somewhere when i can go to vegas and get a better room for a lot less $. Overall i think that justice has made a very profitable investement but i think instead of chaging what he has he needs to prmote what he has. Worthwile investment but it needs to be handled correctly to make the most of what he spent so much on or it will be a waste of time and money.

I agree that there needs to be some more updated activities, however keeping the old faithful activities should never be lost.

Well, there goes the neighborhood. Setting up a gambling empire in the Greenbrier is an insult it can never recover from and should be stopped.
Now I guess the question is whether Big Jim Justice will fly in prostitutes from Memphis, New York or D.C. to spread the joy and the STD's or whether he will employ local talent?
It would have been better if it had been hit & destroyed by a tornado; at leat it would have gone with it's head high and reputation intact.

Try working fro minimum wage like a lot of people. Also try working jobs where there is no insurance available. When you go to a restuarant do you automatically pay your tip. I personally don't tip unless the service deserved to be tipped.

why would you ever walk into a restaraunt if you personally don't tip? if you don't have the money you should never go to a sit down restaraunt. waitress/waiters are working for tips they get less than minimum wage on their check. if that is your stance and you insist on not tipping then you should let your server know that when you sit down. p.s. let us know when you do this i wanna b there to see this.

I didnt say I didnt tip. The meaning behind what I said Is why is all this gratuity automatically added. You need to provide the service to get the tip. I do tip my servers and usually quite fairly

Please don't sit in my section when you want to tip fairly...sounds like you have a problem and enjoy taking it out on people who can't do anything for fear of not getting that fair tip...you know, that without us servers out there getting less than minium wage, you would have to eat fast food all the time or God forbid EAT AT HOME....we as servers know the actual pay is crap, but, we still take the job knowing that you, the public, also understand that tipping is our bread and butter, and when you walk through the door, will tip...but, if you think that you are better than servers, and only come in as a way to boost your own ego, STAY HOME, COOK YOUR OWN FOOD AND SERVE YOURSELF...

I enjoy my servers when I go out to eat. mY point being is if I get shitty service you are not going to get a tip and you get SOME not all servers that if the tip is automatically added the service doesnt matter to them. Not everyone is like that. But some do think oh well I am going to get the gratuity anyways so why bother. I have never not left a tip unless the waitress or waiter was rude. I comepletely understand that the majority of their wages are coming from tips.

I'm sure most of the employees there are hard working people, but I also know that some have been babied for far too long. Like one that came to work and actually made a bed with table cloths, etc., and when he was caught sleeping blamed it on a medical condition. He still works there. I think there needs to be a wholesale house cleaning and then pay good wages.

Not everyone works in that fashion...obviously the hotel has great employees..we've all sacrificied holidays and weekends to keep it going for years. There's always a bad apple in the bunch. The days are long there and it's a place where you have to be caring 24/7 unlike most of the businesses around greenbrier county, where you walk in and feel like you are unwanted. After working at the Greenbrier you have a better understanding of the 'whole' hospitality thing. Gratiuty is well deserved. Compared to other 5 star resorts..our pay is not that great. Im glad the new owner stepped in but employee's pay could be better. Try taking a pay cut and see how you like it.

Simple, If you dont like the way he runs "His" property Quit and find a new job. Mabe you are to spoiled from being pampered all these years and running the Greenbrier in to the ground for service that didnt deserve a 18% tip.

I did quit but thats still not solving the problems. Are u an ass kisser up there? And what the f*** is he running.. his mouth. This was a topic so I committed on it. Did you sit in his auditory meeting? The management ran that place in the ground not EMPLOYEES jackass. Look you have no idea what you are talking about. The Employees will keep that place running not the management...spoiled and pampered thats management and their families prick. Employees didn't charge thousands on accounts randomly throughout the hotel, steal tv's, wine, food, products, take vacations monthly, watch porn out of their offices off the guest account, bring friends in for free services.. the shit goes on. All the workers get is crappy lunch and they work HARD for their pay check maybe you should try it or you can put your taco where the sun doesn't shine. I have made less money since we started getting automatic grat...I made MORE right of the top so your comment is worthless just as you are.

are you kidding me? clearly you have never been a waitress or probably never even eat in a fine dining restaurant, first of all i am a waitress at the greenbrier, and i work very hard! i didn't take a minimum wage job and one without insurance....i took one with automatic gratuity and with insurance! try taking a job and than getting everything taken from you?! of course you don't have automatic gratuity at your basic local restaurant, its not fine dining?! our work is hard, you wouldn't know unless you have done it! so don't state your opinion until you have walked in someone else's shoes!

it was the management who ran it in the ground. they would spend millions of dollars on something that was not five star standard and then the next year go tear it up because it did not meet the standard, the standard they new was in place.
