gotta give credit to the author of these articles.... they never waste an opportunity to let us all know the magical-will-allow-motorcyclis t-to-survive-any-accident helmet was absent.
My condolences and prayers to the motorcyclists family.

My heart goes out to the man's family and to the young lady who could not prevent the accident. What a fluke. May Nick rest in peace. With deepest sympathy

What relevance is the fact that the victim of this tragic accident was not wearing a helmet? He struck a deer, was ejected from his bike and then run over by an automobile. The odds are that he suffered massive trauma to his torso and extremities. It is a proven fact (as acknowledged by NHSTA) that a helmet will only protect the head from low speed collosions.

gottaloveit,

Why would that be any different than if this had been a car crash?? In those stories they always state whether or not the victims were wearing seatbelts... on a motorcycle a helmet is essentially your seatbelt.....

I would have to think that a helmet would have made no difference in the out come.

Unfortunately they will always state whether or not someone was wearing a helmet (or in the event of an enclosed vehicle crash- a seat belt) regardless of whether or not the rider would have survived if they had been. I lost another friend of mine in '06 and a helmet would not have saved her life either. M Jacques I really enjoyed reading your post as I must say I agree with you. Nick was a good guy and my deepest most heartfelt sympathies go out to his family and friends.

yeah a bunch of nazi's passed the nw seatbelt law that allows officers to tickt a passenger who is a minor (over the age of 15) so when can we expect helmet laws to be a felony offense? any lawmakers out there?

I wear my helmet at all times, strapped onto my sissy bar! I guess I'd rather die than survive with paralysis or some other horrible injury. Big insurance is pushing our caretaker government towards not letting us leave the house without full body armor.

Too many people are making too many assumptions based on too few facts.

I ride an MC, and with a full-face helmet and protective gear at all times. Yet I know that I might be involved in a situation where all of those precautions will do me no good.

I accept that fact ... and still I ride as much as I can in a short Minnesota summer.

The legislature is the right place to have a debate over the usefulness of mandatory helmet laws ... not in the comments section of a tragic accident where not all the details are known, O.K.?

To all the so-called anti-helmet people: You people disgust me! As a motorcyclist who probably has over 50,000 miles on the saddle, I can count on my fingers the amount of times I've ridden without a helmet. There are hundred's of cases where the helmet saves lives, besides what difference does it make, I personally don't like ingesting bugs and insects!

It does not matter if he was wearing a helmet or not, that was his choice. People know and make the decision to do what they want. It was a horrible accident, sorry for the loved ones.

so if someone does not do as you , they disgust you? and i do ride, could care less if someone has or doesnt have a helmet, and have put more than 50k on, and do not ingest bugs. but glad you know what is best for the world, minnesota does have some of the lowest per capita deaths, in fact there is less since the repeal of the law in 76 per capita.

In that case, how would you like a law telling you that you could NOT wear one, because the insurance companies don't want to pay when you survive?

Hmmmmmm

Disgusting isn't it?

I'm from Florida but here is two states where the mandatory helmet law was repealed, with deadlier results. http://www.dot.gov/affairs/nhtsa4100.htm

P.S. Been riding since "68". Yeah, through the HL years, and wear one when I WANT to. So your 50K is a break-in period for some of us.

The prospect of travel really appeals to you today, especially if you don't have any holidays booked for the foreseeable future. So be careful if you're out shopping and you happen to walk past a travel agent's, because almost before you know it you could be sitting in there waving your credit card around and consulting your diary for the best day to take off for the wide blue yonder.
