They need to win a lawsuit and collect damages... but against the parents of the PERPS, not the district. That B.S. starts at home ya know.

Let's hope WB holds the line and doesn't allow it's insurance carrier, probably the Minnesota School Boards Association insurance pool, to payoff these people in the false belief that it is cheaper. It isn't. It encourages this type of nonsense lawsuit.

Another minority suing for discrimination, real or imagined, it makes no difference. Seems to me if you're white and traveling around The Metro, you're the minority. Who do I sue?

next they will be suing because someone called them gay, lesbian, bi or transgendered.

Time to end lawsuits based on feelings being hurt. Seems to me people ought to get thicker skins and prove that their taunters are wrong.

What are they suppose to prove to their taunters, that they are/are not Asian? Your entire comment made no sense whatsoever. I bet you're the type of person that would bully a gay or minority.. Take down your confederate flag and step away from your computer.

What nonsense lawsuit? Racial discrimination is against the law, and if the school doesn't want to get sued, then it should enforce the law. This is not mere name calling. It's discrimination. Pure and simple.

*sigh* times are tough, I guess people will do anything for a buck.

I agree with Oldfart. Name calling and teasing is what it is at that age. As a person who went through the White Bear school system K-12, I went through the BS of the teasing, just as everyone else did. Whether you're white, black... too thin, too heavy... too smart, not smart enough...(you get the point) kids will find some way to pick on their peers. It is what it is and when it happens, I believe it comes down to the parents to not sue the school district, but inform their children of how it is wrong and how they themselves can be better people. If the parents think this suit will stop the teasing... they have a new thing coming. It will carry it's way through high school. Good going, parents.

Racial discrimination is not about a little name calling. It's a hate crime and there's nothing stupid about that. We should teach our students to respect each other and not go around verbally attacking others because of the color of their skin. And then you add insult to injury calling it a stupid lawsuit. It's you and your racism that are stupid. What a loser!

Discrimination is alive and well and very real, and you sue anyone who discriminates against you because of the color of your skin. But I have a feeling it's you and your kind who's causing minorities of color to sue.

Last I heard, being teased is not against the law but racial discrimination is. I have a better idea. How about the parents of these little racist freaks teaching their children to not discriminate against others so they can grow up to be good law-abiding citizens. Good going, parents.

I think we can all agree that we as a society are beginning to see more and more cases of discrimination throughout the land. To some degree, all of your arguments make a point. Yes, kids will be kids and teasing will happen, but where do we draw the line between acceptable teasing and going too far with our comments, keeping in mind the offenders are 9,10, or 11 years old. As an "alum" of Parkview we often were caught teasing the Centerpoint students, claiming our half of the school was better. Are we still in the age where we think one race is better than another? Lawsuit worthy? Maybe, maybe not, but at least something to think about and discuss around the dinner table.

Yes, all we need to do is institute more training to let our children know how different they are from one another. My chidren are Latino and Caucasian. We have lived in WBL for 10 years with minimal issues related to race. If we did it would be addressed with the school and the parents of the children involved. This family is counting on the school district to break for a quick buck. Would this still be considered racial harassment if this was a white student being bullied by a group of minority students?

If they think it's an issue, find out what kids said what, and calmly call the parents and ask for a meeting. No, instead lets sue the school, they are responsible for everything. The school should not only teach out children, but monitor what they say at all times, keeping in mind that the kids can say anything they want to the teachers, because that's considered freedom of expression. Don't you dare discipline my Johnny, he is very special, and needs special treatment. Did I mention how special my Johnny is?

I've been a teacher for over 20 years. I've dealt with so much of this stuff. There are kids who are just jerks, and do their best to make other kids miserable. I know my school district is vigilant about catching and dealing with this behavior, but I'm sure there's a lot that we miss or don't hear about from the students. If the school district did nothing (and they knew this was happening), then I think they need to change their ways. If they did their best, but it still continued, then it makes me mad that these little jerks are going to cost the taxpayers of WBL money. No doubt about it - there are some truly crappy parents out there. Too bad we all pay the price for their incompetence.

We need a "loser pays" law in this country, like they have in Australia. If you bring a suit and lose, you pay all the fees and expenses. Kind of limits the lawsuits to the real ones.

Maybe this family addressed their concerns with the school and the parents but the discrimination continued leaving them with no choice but to sue. Hit them where their pocket is. That’s the only way some districts will understand that some parents just won’t stand for their children being discriminated against. They have just as much right to attend that school as does the racist family’s children. They’re not suing for a quick buck. They’re suing for justice and their children’s right to attend school without further discrimination. It’s the school's responsibility to protect ALL the students.

These children are racist bullies. Period!

And, yes, this would still be considered racial harassment if this was a white student being bullied by a group of minority students. What a stupid question. Because you wish your children to put up with this type of racial harassment does not mean every parent should. Some actually care about their children and their right to fair and equal protection under the law. These parents are fighting back the only way they can when they are not listened to. I would rather listen to them and act on their concerns before letting it get to this point, but the school chose not to. Thus, the lawsuit. The school brought this on themselves.
