I recently moved to Baldwin to help Engineer the finish of the modifications to the plant.
I started by checking out the new buildings, silos, and scrubbing system. To save space and time here I will get straight to the point:

This stuff is all fake and will do nothing, the ducts and silos do not do anything, they are there for looks. The exhaust is actually filtered by a single filter located at the top of each stack. It is simply a 12 x 12 foot ac filter like in you home.
Workers will just need to change the filter once every 3 weeks. Other than that working the com[lex is simply pushing buttons and making adjustments that are just like playing a video game to make it all look real. Hope the people enjoy this place, it has wasted millions of dollars and will take 2 more years to complete.

If you have any information to add or questions please post.

You think thats bad you should see the place to the south of the plant at night! They spend all that money to filter that poison out then take it across the road where it goes back up into the local air for all of us to breath!! You should see the fine dust partials coming off it at night!! And why did the plant buy up all the ground across the road and demolish ALL the houses?? I know why! the new coal that is suppose to be safer is crumblier and the fine dust off it blows all over the country side. That is why there is NEVER snow around there when it snows every where else around the plant.

The only thing good about having the plant in the area are the jobs it provides....oh wait thats right most of the people that work at the plant are from out of the area. How does that help the community or this area when people from out of state are coming into work? If I'm wrong please correct me because I have always wanted to know what is up with that.

whoever judged bar tabs comments as spam wrong or clueless has no idea what they are talking about. My company was hired to do some wiring in a control box recently and to go exactly by the diagrams shown. ALL they did was take a switch, hook it to a power supply and to a light on a panel, it did nothing. I am not an expert on the silos and duct work but I do know wiring.
One new controlroom we did was built to turn lights around the silo by the lake on and off and control a steam release valve that puts steam into an exaust fan for no reason. I know this system will pipe steam around the plant to release it in different locations for no reason.

i have been involved in cleaning the plant from the inside. unless you are speaking of the new scrubber upgrades.... I have to tell you that the filter system is huge, and it collects a lot of debris. Literally tons of it. It takes weeks for about a dozen men working around the clock to clean the filter system. I have not been in the stack so i cannot speak of that. Isn't the new scrubber an addition to the existing filtering system?? wasn't the new scrubber system an epa regulatory upgrade?

the plant provides jobs locally, quite a few of them. the out of town people show up during outages. these are times when quite a few locals go out there to work, and also quite a few from out of town. It depends on the trade, but look at it this way. boilermakers for example are a specialist trade. the local boilermakers have to travel to work. baldwin doesn't need 200 boilermakers on a continuous basis. so these specialists travel. the travel from here to there, and from there to here. the local boys get a lot of work there, but when the workforce becomes huge and round the clock, then the boomers come in. keep in mind that our guys boom out too. so its all relative so to speak

I think more than one person on this thread is either so clueless about their job and education they should be sweeping floors. Others are clueless about nearly everything in the world. One has the sense god gave him.

Since I work there and am intricately involved with most of the processes, I can honestly say that Bar tab is so brutally idiotic that it is hard to figure out where to start.
First, there are so many chemical reactions that are done to the exhaust gas as it goes from the boiler to the stack that pretty well every pollutant is taken out of the exhaust.
Second there are multiple layers of "filters" that take the dust out of the air and then either reuse it, or send it to the ash field.
Third, all the talk about dirty, polluted, and filthy byproducts is the same material that allows the binding to be cheaper and stronger in concrete. It is mixed in asphalt to make it stronger. It is given to most of the local communities for grit on the road during the snows to keep you safe driving,
Fourth, the agreements that Baldwin has with local communities (Red Bud especially) allows for the community to have a lot of extra income to pay for amnenities that most wouldn't afford.
Fifth, The amount of "local" workers in this plant is close to 80%. Those are folks from the area working here at their home.
You P.O.S.'s that spew hate and rhetoric have no idea how much that plant has given to the community, and after they have put in close to a billion dollars (mandated through government) which stimulated the economy locally 30 times more than the installation of the shooting complex you still want to badmouth it.
Get the hell out of Southern Illinois and go to Chicago where you belong. You can chase jobs out of there all you want and fit right in, but don't sit in my house and my community and incite problems that can hurt my friends, family, and community for a generation.
