congrats to the new owners and all, I hope they flourish with their new acquisition. Sadly, this will be out of business in a year, if not less. I attended an evening show last night and it's still pretty rough inside the place. Hope it improves.

My family enjoyed ourselves tonight at the Theater. We haven't been in more than 8 months to this Cinema. It looked great and smelled great and was very clean! The ceilings had been fixed so my seat was DRY. Thank you! The floors were so clean my feet no longer stuck to them and the staff was very nice and served us with a smile. It has made some really nice improvements and I hope the community supports them so they can continue to improve and maintain the theater.

I read in the paper today that in Nov they're going to be showing a classic movie once a week.
"Rebel Without A Cause" & "Casablanca" were mentioned. I've said for years that we needed a venue for classic films around here. I'm looking forward to the experience.

Are they going to have a bargain night like they used to? It used to be on Tuesday nights you could get in cheaper?

It looks great. The people working there are much friendlier than last year. The sound and picture is better than it's been in quite a while. It looks classier and it might be a work in progress but I had a great time. They have my business. I hope it gets as busy as it used to. The owners and people working there have changed it and made it so much better. Our town deserves a good movie theater like this. We don't need another empty business. This town needs to come together and make sure it makes it. I can't imagine Wheelersburg without the cinema. The past few years it seemed inevitable that it was going to close. But now I have hope. I don't want to spend a lot on gas to go somewhere else to see movies.

Well the down side I see is that they are still showing film and not using digital projectors. I know that would be a big investment but it's hard to compete. I never went to Republic until they upgraded. Was just easier to go to Ashland. I have been to wheelersburg a few times as I would like them to succeed.
I do think the discount night is the best idea if there is a way to afford to do it. Or maybe some shows that have been out for awhile like the $3.00 cinemas.
As negative as I sound, I wish them well.

I'm not knocking them but I'm not going to praise them on what they are SUPPOSED to be doing. Everybody is saying things like oh the floors were clean and dry etc...THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE! I went and was not impressed. The sound was normal but not better than Portsmouth, the picture CLEARLY was not better than Portsmouths, and the popcorn was about equal.
Let's be real here. If you put the two side by side Wheelersburg has no chance of beating Portsmouth cinema. Just as Portsmouth has no chance of beating the cinema in Easton mall in Columbus.
After giving them anotehr chance here is what I think. If I am going to a movie and I have the option of a cinema with better seats, better picture and better sound...it's worth the 10 min drive from burg to Portsmouth.

Read the article from ports daily times... Sounds like these people are really working hard! The flavor bar sounds great! Add cheese and butter to our own popcorn, as much or as little as you want! YUM!

My wife and I went this past weekend and watched unstoppable. It was a very disappointing experience. The movie "jittered" throughout giving it a shaky appearence. The top of the creen is still dark and fades. The sound was awful. One speaker in the front with an awful humm noise for the whole movie. The floors were clean but this place is a real bomb. I can't believe ANYONE would want to go see a movie here over Portsmouth. We tried to give them another chance but I can say honestly that we will NEVER return to the Wheelersburg Cinema and I suggest you don't either. To the owners of the Wheelersburg Cinema, we really hoped that you could make it better but maybe its best you just let it go and die a peaceful death and let us remember it like it once was. If you don't...you will be out of business eventually anyway. Without the money need to compete, you are fighting a lost cause. You know this is true. Nostalgia alone will not be enough to keep this cinema afloat. We all have great memories of the Wheelersburg Cinema but each time we return it continues to get tarnished. Let it go...it's in the best interest for you financially, and emotionally.

My family and I attended this as well. Wonderful food, show, and sound. Looked clean and the workers were very friendly. Give them a break. They are from Portsmouth and they are trying.

i grew up with the gentleman who bought it and he's always been a determined kinda guy...he can do wonderful things with that place...and for those who don't know and keep talking about how wonderful the Portsmouth cinema is (and yes, it is), one of the main reasons it's so nice (besides the fact that it was built to be technologically advanced) is because Mr. Hobbs was it's manager before he decided to break out on his own...they've only had the place for 3 months and it was a skeleton when they bought it...instead of writing it off after such a short time, and wanting instant gratification, a little support of their efforts might be more productive in pushing that place to what it once was...or even better.

I attended a movie within the last week, and I was very pleased. You can see a huge improvement made. I look foward to watching some more movies in the near future at Wheelersburg Cinema.

I will give them a shot. Portsmouth has its flaws too, ya know. A bunch of lawless punks and poor management befell the last owners.
