What happened to John Spira?

Steve Miller reporting -- Today marks three years since John Spira disappeared from his West Chicago office, and DuPage County authorities say they are investigating it as a missing persons case.

I just watched the story about John Spira, what a horribly, frustrating, story!!!!!! I watch almost every Cold Case, City Confidential, 48 Hours show on TV and do not ever claim to be an investigator, or the smartest person in my area...but OMG, are these people stupid???? The lax aire of the lead investigator was maddening!!!!! I never heard one mention of them getting a search warrant for his shared home of his wife, of whom he was going through what seemed to everyone else a civil divorce!...there is NO such thing as a civil divorce!..they should have checked out who she was sleeping with (possibly a business partner) of which both his estranged wife and the lover had everything to gain, check her story, phone records, marks on her body, check the entire house for a struggle, blood...I mean w/t/f people!...she had EVERYTHING TO GAIN, this poor dude had what 3 businesses? The story said he had given her an ultimatium regarding the divorce the same day he disappeared!!!!!!!!!!if she had a lover, that would have pissed him off!!!!!! I believe the truck was planted at his business by his "wife" and accomplice, and they stood to gain everything this poor guy had and are living happily ever after......Jesus...wake up this investigation was a joke even to an amateur...I really feel for the girlfriend (which was the smartest person in the bunch) she tried for 2 days to convience these idiots that something was wrong! I would be suing the hell out of that joke of a sheriff department, they need a good lesson.

Yes absolutely, the first thing on my mind was THE WIFE is so guilty, it just calls at foul play and it's unbelievable the LE didn't focus on that angle.
The missing plastic clearly was stolen for the use of packing up the body and the truck left at his workplace indicates someone waited for him to come out of his office and between the office exit and his car, something clearly happened to him. It has to be someone who knows the layout of the workplace,who knows where to get that plastic. The signs being torn down, it's a big simmilarity to the Billy Smolinski case, the ex girlfriend also tore his missing bords down. I think it would be a good idea to place a hidden camera around the bord so you can catch the person in the act and have it on tape. If they have done this twice already, you can bet they will do it again.
This person is a revengefull cold human being with a deep hatred towards John, it isn't enough that they made him disappear, most likely murdered him in cold blood, they also burned his workplace down and tore the missing sings down so even now, when John is no longer there, they aren't satisfied, it's like everything that is his has to disappear. I honestly am convinced that the wife is involved, together with a lover or a boyfriend and together they conspired to do this awfull deed. I pray for John and his family and I hope the focus shifts to where it should be: the wife and associates!

Totally agree with the adove posts. It also can be that a rival business owner could have had a hand in this too.Funny how his cable wiring business burned to the ground? The billboards with his missing poster were put up across the street of the business. Something is definately fishy with that.

You have to understand that the department is a very underfunded, understaffed, agency with a lot of ground to cover. The county board refuses to give them the funding they need. An example of that I read about a few years ago was the coroner had to perform autopsies on the floor of the highway department garage because they had no facilities. After that story came out they finally authorized funds for the coroner to rent lab space at a hospital. The sheriff and the department do the best they can with the very limited, almost token resources they are given. The joke is the county board, but the results of their underfunding are not funny.

Last month skeletal remains of a body were found in one of the Wheaton forest preserves. Anyone hear if the body was identified or if it is possibly John Spira?

I've worked in Law Enforcement myself (and plan on continuing it.) How much money do you need to post surviellence on a sign that has been torn down? How much funding do you need to question the wife and simply look into who and if she has been in recent relationship with? These are simple things one would learn in a basic Police Accademy or Police Course.

I would like to ask "Chris," who posted on June 21, in what capacity he/she works in Law Enforcement. I found the comment, "I've worked in Law Enformcent myself....and plan on continuing it" to be odd, or at least very awkwardly worded.

...anyway, I am retired law enforcement, and if Chris were an active LE officer, he/she would know that there is no way that any supervisor is going to post an officer to watch a billboard all night, since I don't know of any department who can spare the manpower for what ammounts to a property crime of vandalism.

It would make more sense for the family to hire a PI to get more information, or to post another billboard and then have the PI or assistant stake it out with a camera overnight.

Du Page County...have you been beaten with the stupid stick? I am sick to my stomach after watching this horrific episode and very ashamed by your demeanor from the beginning of this investigation! Just disgusted! Hard to believe these people are "serving and protecting" the citizens of Du Page County. I guess as long as you're not dead, you're in good hands.

I watched this a while ago and was extremely upset. My biggest problem with the investigation was the giant poster of John. Every time they put it up someone pulled it down....why didn't they put one up and have someone watch it the entire time? If he was in my family and someone was pulling down his missing person poster, I would absolutely want to know who that person was. I would watch it day and night to see. Chances are it was someone involved in his dissaperance. If the family reads this, I would hope they would at least try it. That is the first thing that came to mind.

I'm guessing you didn't do much in the way of law enforcement if you think that they haven't interviewed people. Frankly, I'm pretty sure you aren't a cop.
