Giving up on the American dream

Full story: www.denverpost.com

A tightening economy and social hostility are driving once-hopeful Mexican immigrants such as Absalom Lopez out of Colorado. Seven years after an illegal crossing that led to abundant work cooking and cleaning, Lopez, his wife and their 6-year-old, Denver-born son plan to chase their dream of opening a tortilla factory in Mexico. They say their $1,000-a- week combined earnings here plummeted in recent months to around $300. They're moving from a $700-a-month rented house in Wheat Ridge to a less costly two-room apartment until they head home to Veracruz next year, Lopez said.

Recently, a mother who raised three U.S.-born children huddled tearfully by her husband outside Denver's Mexican Consulate. For 15 years, his welding, truck driving and work at construction sites earned enough to make $1,200-a-month mortgage payments on a house in Aurora — even though she and her husband were in the country illegally.

OH tell me it isn't so. I'm certain Mexico has a SBA program to help them get started, low rent housing, food stamps, utility aid, etc.

I see, the job he took from an American should be considered yet another an American won't do? Ask the American he replaced!

Well at least they "plan" on taking their Anchor baby with them.

I could care less about their shattered dreams. They weren't really privy to the American dream because they aren't legal citizens of this great country. They begged, borrowed and took from the taxpayers of this country, only to give back very little except over-crowded schools,ER rooms, mayhem on the roads with their drunken driving habits and spreading diseases that were once eradicated in this country. They refuse to honor our system of laws because they aren't convenient for them. They are a bunch of opportunists whose time of living above our laws is coming to an end. All I can say is good, and let the door hit your tails, because you deserve an arse whipping for being such unwelcome intruders who brought down wages, forced Americans out of jobs and into the unemployment lines, while leaving less of our hard-earned in our pockets. Somebody had to pay for the education, medication and support of their children, and seeing as they lack personal responsibility as well as self-reliance,
that fell into the laps of
hapless Americans.

Too many people, too many nations trying to ride on the American economy, failing to create their own. Did they believe that all of Mexico, Central America and most of South America could just come and take our jobs?

Of course they haven't given up. This story is just more propoganda, designed to lull us into a sense of "winning" so we'll get sloppy and forget the fight. For every one who actually DOES leave, I'm sure there are 10 more to take it's place.

It seems to me that if we could get rid of all 11 million of these illegals our unemployment problem would almost be fixed. American citizens should be outraged to see any illegal alien working when our own citizens are unempolyed. Any illegal alien should be watching their backs during these tough times in America.

Yeah well, lots of American citizens have pretty much given up on the "AMERICAN" dream, so why should our "resident" illegals have it any better than we do. It was meant to be our dream not the dream of those coming to this country to rob, murder, rape and plunder our nation.

I'm happy they're leaving, and not at all surprised.

The illegal aliens came to America because they gave up trying to make something of themselves in their own country. In America, they still had that quitter mentality and when things started getting tough, back home they go (or maybe Canada?).

Part of what it means to be an American is to be tough and keep getting up when you're smacked down. We set goals and do our damndest to see them through. They are not American, they're leaches, and thus they quit and go running home.

Daily Horoscope for December 19

Capricorn

Someone is being very pedantic and picky, and they'll soon drive you round the bend with frustration. They're splitting hairs about all sorts of petty problems, but unfortunately you won't be immune from this yourself. You might get caught up in needless details that don't really matter, or take everything that happens very personally. Try to be more objective.
