3 accused of stealing from youth football program - KDVR

These people used to be our friends, and the friends of anyone involved in baseball and football in Golden. My husband coached their son in baseball. Not only did they steal from the Midget League, they are also accused of stealing from the Golden High School Quarterback Club to the tune of $8,000- the money the boys raised for camps by selling service donated Golden Club Cards. Bill also stole from his former employer, another good friend who gave him a job. He was always nice to me, but could be an embarrasment at games- the referees would often have to chastize him. His wife was a firefighter, and was always so nice- I just get so frustrated when I see this- we knew they didn't have much, but they went to Mexico and had a big boat...we should have known. Their kids are very nice- I was pretty close to them, and can't imagine how hard this must be. They will know who this is if they read it- but I can't help it- Why, Bill & Kelli- you hurt so many people who trusted you. We have double signature accounts now- how sad that we have to protect our kids from the people who are supposed to care about them. They aren't alone- this stuff is everywhere, and I just don't get it.

i think these 3 fools if convicted should get very lengthy prizon terms they make me sick im a youth boxing coach in denvfer and we strugle to keep the doors open and our traing fees low. and you have these punks stealing from the kids theyr suposed to to serve and help. i will remember these names if they ever try to get coaching or other positions in usa boxing

Now it all makes sense. We have been pressuring Cheryl and Steve Wyckoff to prosecute Bill and Kelli for a long time with lots of resistance. Now it all makes sense. I kind of suspected that Cheryl was guilty of something. It took a lot of pressure to get this far and I am hoping the courts pull through on this one.

This will be the fourth time that Bill will be charged, he was found guilty of three other thefts. This will be Kelli's second.

According to the JAMFA website Cheryl is still the President, I am not sure this is true but as of 2 days before she was indicted she posted something about collecting money on the GAMFA website, so she is involved somehow.

This is a good organization for our kids, but it needs to get rid of these thieves and put in some good measures in to the money management to stop the stealing. They also need to allow outside leaders of our community that don't have kids to help run the organization. Their elections are closed to the public and not posted on their websites. How about being open to the community that supports them and showing some integrity?

Kim- RUHIGH? Honest? Bill's employer and friend actually caught him stealing from the vending machine! He can't get any lower. He's a low-life moron. And Cheryl- I am stunned by that. No, we know the Hillbornes well, and they are not good people. They were always nice, yes- but they lost their way, mostly Bill, and he took Kelli down with him. They were separated for a time- she should have stayed away. Luckily, folks, their kids are 18+, and I hope they can move on from this. The daughter had already left home a few years ago, but the son is my son's age, and had to deal with moving from Golden to escape the peer pressure in his Senior year, and I don't know if he graduated. He is a very talented baseball player and football QB- I hope he moves on.

Oh, and BTW, Kim, you doofus, THEY controlled all the money- they were joint treasurers because they were so involved and trusted. Nobody thought they would steal from their own kid! They aren't alone- when I became secretary of Golden Junior Baseball in the late 90's, another parent had stolen $38,000 from the organization in a very short time- another trusted member. He escaped jail time to continue working and has been paying restitution for years, but the Hillbornes don't have JOBS, and Bill will NEVER be able to pay the debt, so off to prison he goes, where he belongs. Along with the Hockey Dad in Adams County who stranded his team on a unpaid trip. Along with the Lakewood Mom Band Booster President who absconded with all their marching band funds two years ago. What the hell is the matter with people?

People, the real problem are not the thieves among you - it is the parent's apathy, and parents not getting involved with the organization. Just because someone "seems" good, doesn't mean they are. Pay attention people and get involved - if something smells fishy, it probably is. This alleged theft is really about hurting kids - because the money was taken, there's less money for proper equipment, which means kid's safety is at risk. The reason these people were busted was because somebody out there cared enough to push for the truth - he is the hero.

Maybe we need to check into baseball since Steve and Cheryl are involved in that too.
This is unbelievable how Steve can coach a team and Cheryl can act as if she is the best fund-raiser ever.
Maybe this is why Steve's team can not seem to win a football game and haven't all season
I am so sad for our boys and the other coaches on that team who put in their time.

GJBA has dual sigs required on their accounts, now, MOM- and I think all jr. organizations need to have strict checks and balances- and yes, more involved parents (and I don't mean complaining about the coaches and refs!) The Hillbornes are a sad story, and I am so surprised about the Wyckoff's involvement!

Thank you raysmom I am just so sad about all of this.. Money is an issue for alot of people today and to think so much was taken from our kids...it is a real shame. You are right about parental involvement

MOM- We probably know each other, or have seen each other around- it's a small town. After we found out from a parent on our baseball team that Bill had been stealing from her, it didn't take much to figure out who it was when rumors started flying about embezzlement. But it was still shocking to actually see it- I had seen them just before they moved to Delta and they seemed nervous. They didn't have much, but they did have a big boat and took trips to Mexico and all kinds of "extras". This wasn't need, it was greed, and it makes me sad, too- for our kids and theirs. Take care.

This has been covered up for a long time. The powers to be in JMFA have ignored the facts of this case, saying it was a Golden matter. They refused to deal with the issue. So when we complained to Golden Football (GAMFA, the Wycoff's) we got ignored. When we took the matter to JMFA President and he ignored us and we got nowhere. It's taken over a year to bring these people to justice. Thanks Jeffco DA's Office for not sweeping this under the rug.

If the indictment is true and Cheryl and Steve Wycoff stole money with the Hillborne's, then naturally they would do everything possible to hamper the investigation. They need to be removed immediately from any association with youth football. Kick them to the curb now. JMFA deserves a big black eye for ignoring the facts and refusing to handle this matter. After all, they oversee all activities in the association. Why were calls and emails to the JMFA Board ignored for months? The public needs to ask these questions and hold the people running these organizations accountable. The email addresses to contact the JMFA board is listed on the Jeffcofootball.com website.

Maybe it is time that the big organization, Jeffco midget football association (JMFA)take a look at this as well. Cheryl Wycoff is an employee of JMFA and Steve Wycoff is a coach and officer in Golden. I realize Steve hasn't been indicted, but.....
Isn't is bad enouogh they have been accused of steeling money from GAMFA, Golden High School, but now have keys to the cookie Jar at JMFA. How can these persons still be involved in the Association? How has the President of JMFA allowed her to continue her duties now that the indictments have been handed out. How is Steve Wycoff being allowed to be involved in any capacity. Is this a cover up from the top?
Maybe it is time to meet with the JMFA President and Board. Tomorrow night would be a good time at there meeting in Wheatridge, at the Berber house in Prospect Park at 7:00pm. Maybe the media can get answers where we couldn't! Notify the media, Put some pressure on the leadership to do the right thing! Show up at the Board meeting tomorrown night and voice your opinion! Now is not to late! Wer as parents cannot let this kind of thing go away. We all work hard for our money and think when we fill out our checks for our kids to particiapte in Football or Baseball it is being spent on things for our kids, not the Hillborne's and Wycoff's kids or vacations.

I am totally floored by all this. I have been very good friends of the Wyckoffs and feel that all this is just too much. My son played for Steve in baseball and football. I supported the team, the boys, the coaches, the parents. Lots of my time has been wasted to help others get rich quick. Not to mention the fact that what is this gonna do to our boys. They have looked up to these people as their piers. In hopes to play at the hs level.
I am disgusted by this and wish that the Wyckoffs were pulled from sports all together. I guess you never know who your friends are.
As for Hunter and Rylee, I feel for you very much and wish there was something I could do. You both are great kids and don't deserve the humiliation that your parents have caused in your lives. Unfortunatly there is nothing I can do, but protect my son and hope for the best.

Steve and Cheryl you guys really need a reality check. You have both always took pride in Golden sports and the fact that you are in it for the kids. So I ask the question "Did it benefit golden football players, the thundercats, or the golden bad boys when you guys payed you power bills, phone bills, grocery bills, etc..... " How did the boys benefit from that.
Plenty of us parents supported you for many years and would have helped you out without stealing money. I hope that the good lord above takes care of you. May he have mercy on your souls.

I am so disgusted. My husband has been out of work for a few months and we still supported the team and league. Never did I think of stealing money fron my employer.

I know this is a small forum, but hope the word gets out about this.
This is America and we are all innocent until proven guilty. In many situations (jobs) when somebody is accused or indicted of a crime they are immediately suspended. When they get their day in court and they are found innocent or guilty, the other shoe falls. They are either permanently released or given back their position or some similar position. We all don't know for sure what the Grand Jury found, but the fact they were indicted indicates they have something and it isn't a questionable case. Grand Juries have full and complete access to things a police or DA investigator don't. An Innocent person doesn't resist or hinder a Grand Jury investigation. Steve and Cheryl did.
It is for all to decide for yourself or wait for the final verdict. For me, they need to distance themselves from either organization, GAMFA and JMFA, and defend themselves in court.
If they settle or plea to anythng other than innocent, you can all make your own judgements.
Cheryl and Steve do the right thing, get away from JMFA and GAMFA NOW! Not at the end of the playoffs or in the winter, NOW!

The meeting tonight (Thursday) according to the JMFA web site is still scheduled for 7 pm at Prospect park, Berber house.

I could not agree with you more. They have no biz being around our kids or our money. If they are innocent then fine, but I will never believe that. As for the meeting tonight I heard that it was going to be a closed meeting. Bill P needs to stand up for what is right and take everything from them. We all know that he wont do this. He should be overturned for allowing this to continue. I am going to the meeting as well as other parents. We all have to do what is right here and fight for our kids. The golden football kids are suffering and should not have to end their season this way. Where is the justice in JMFA. What gives anyone on the board the right to close their meeting to the public and not allow us parents to voice our opinion. We should all go and protest this and do what is right for our kids. Since when did JMFA become an organization that employees others? What about the kids? What about us parents that devote our time and money to the league. Do we not matter? Do our kids not matter? Bill Patten has no biz sweeping this under the rug any longer. He doesn't care anymore because in 1 month JMFA will be a thing of his past. Wake up Bill and do the right thing.

To all the news stations....thanks to you and the jeffco da justice will prevail and hopefully our kids will make it through the season with minimal drama. Please come out to the meeting tonight and support us in having the Wyckoff's removed.
